Internet access in your home

We have DSL, but my mom still has dial-up. Nothing else is available where she lives, and she HATES it.

She says that she can open a page, leave the computer, go make a sandwich, throw in a load of laundry, start the dishwasher, and then come back to the computer. The page MIGHT be loaded by then, depending on content. REALLY annoying, but she gets a lot more done around the house.

Seriously though, it becomes so frustrating that most of the time, they don't even use their home internet. She and my stepdad either take their laptops to work and use the internet access there (with the OK from their bosses) or take them to the library or Borders or somewhere else with free internet access.

Loved the scene in the movie the Proposal where she has to put dimes in the internet cafe and she gets dial-up!

I loved that too!!!

We had high speed when we first got internet then got AOL so went to dial-up. One computer in our house then got high speed back and I didn't get it until 2005.

I've had a cable hook up for quite a while now. I couldn't go back to dial up for any reason.

I had dial-up until 2007. I needed high speed for my grad school work....my Master's is in Technology...could you imagine uploading vidoes/podcasts/etc with dial up? Shoot me.....

My mother still has dial-up. Everyday, i tell her to get DSL, but she compians it's too expensive. Meanwhile she complains that she can't see slideshows, can't access various websites, and her computer keeps popping up with updates for this and that, but doing an update takes forever.......

Arrrgggghhhh.

I once tried to look up one itty bitty thing at her house and wanted to die. Can't believe I lived that way for sooo long.

I am moving soon, and now my biggest delimma is whether or not to get cable Internet.

We've never had dial-up. We were really lucky that our first apartment installed some line so that we all tied into it.

DH and i have DSL, and my parents have it as well. i remember when i was living at home when we first got the internet we had dial-up and it was horrible. i had this old computer where you couldn't turn down the sound of it dialing up, it was horrible
