The Swan advertises in room high speed access socket. Does anyone know what cable/adaptor I need to connect to my laptop ? I only have a UK phone jack lead from my laptop at the moment.

If I don't take the laptop where is the nearest acccess available - is there a business center with a terminal in the Swan or Dolphin ?

thanks

Alec

The Westins that I have been in had a LAN cable right at the desk in the room. Depending on the type of NIC/ethernet card you have, you should be able to plug it in and surf.

Some laptops require a special adaptor between the LAN cable and the NIC card...the IBM 600X is one of them. This would have come with your card if you need one.

If I recall there was an extension you could call if you needed help.

If for some reason you are unable to connect vis the high speed access, you can always plug your phone line into the jack on the phone and call a local ISP that way to get connected, but it won't be high speed, and you might have to pay for the calls.

The Swan and Dolphin have a business center that you can pay for access.

The Yacht Club next door also has a business center with access using their machines, the cost is $10 for every 15 minutes of use.

From my experiences you wont need a cord but your computer needs an ethernet port (not a regular phone modem port - it looks very similar but it is a little larger than a phone plug in) to plug in.
Beyond that it depends on how your laptop is configured and as Anne mentioned the type of interface/network set up you have.

However if you have a Mac it is really really really easy. Just plug it in that's it. Nothing else needed to be done or configured or to buy.
Macs Rule! ;)

We just came back and had a problem connecting our laptop. We have a Dell that has a wireless nic card and it does not work. We also had an adapter, but it was for a small size phone jack, not the large one that is on the desk. We thought about running out to find an adapter, but didn't want to take the time. We also decided not to go the data port phone connection route, as we would have had to set up the pc for it too. If you have a nic card for a cable or dsl connection, you will be fine.

Thanks all! We had problems with the laptop at DLP with a wireless, so i'll get the things you've suggested.

Handy to know about the Business Centre access though ~ Thanks!
