I'm going to HHI in 18 days! Is internet access available at the resort and how much does it cost? Is it a per use fee or can you pay one fee for the length of the stay?

Only dial-up via your own ISP would be available. There are Internet cafes that we used, as well as some free WI-FI and paid WI-FI spots on the island.

Yikes-dial up??? Could you give me a couple of locations for the WI-FI? I'm bringing my laptop.

Wi-fi is coming at HH. Let us know if they've got it when you go. I usually just dial up. Last time I forgot my laptop and just went to the library.

One of the closest is the Barnes & Nobles at The Festival Center of Indigo Run (on William Hilton Pkwy before the Shelter Cove area), but it has paid WiFi. Or you could be a little disengenuous and just head to the lobby of the Baymont and sit in one of the nice cushy chairs for a spell using the free WiFi. Not that I have ever done that :thumbsup2 While you are there, look for the floor tile with Shadow's footprint in it that got sent there and used by mistake. Last time I looked, they had a planter on top of it.

If you use Yahoo maps, they have an option to show you hotspots in the maps. It doesn't show all of them, but it will give you an idea where many of them are. Eventual WIFI at HH will be a pay service in 24-hour increments like the other resorts, according to registration desk CMs.

Wouldn't it make sense for DVC to do a "length of stay" WiFi charge? Or at least offer that option? I would much rather pay a flat fee for for the whole time instead of piecemeal.

DVC has something in the works regarding internet access, but nothing has yet been announced about adding the service.

There is a local company ISLC (Internet Service of the Low Country) that offers a "vacation" rate for dialup of $10 per week. There are other dialup options too, but just be sure you get a truly local number as all calls off the island are long distance and will have those obnoxious surcharges.

Local calls from the resort are $0.35 for members and $0.75 for other guests.

As much of a pain as dialup may be, IMO, it beats driving around the island searching for hot spots when I could be in the comfort of my resort room.

Enjoy!

That would make sense for us DVC members as it would save us money, but not for DVC and WDW as they can charge more for the hourly or 24 continuous hour service.
