Hello,
We are going to BWV the first week in August and I want to take my laptop. I bought a cat 5 ethernet cable to take with me. Will I be able to hook up to the net from the room this way? I have MSN downloaded onto the laptop. I have a cable modem at home and don't use dial up. Also what is the cost to the room for internet access?
Thanks and I hope someone can help me, Any other time one of you have always came through for me.
Thanks in advance.

You should be able to hook up using your Ethernet cord. I believe they are charging $10 / day for connection. When I was at BWV in late January, they were just turning on the system. There is a DSL type unit attached to the wall in the Living Room / Studio which feeds jacks by the sofa and behind the TV. Unfortunately, they screwed the TV to the wall, so they really don't want you to use that jack.

We just got back and I had to call for help twice. Once to get it activated and once to get add another block of 24 hours. Extention 56 I think... quick and simple.

Housekeeping provided me with a ethernet cable.

P.S. Cap I was born in Flint MI!!!!

And I was born closer to Maryland, in D.C.

We were at the Beach Club in March and we were able to connect to the internet using our laptop and cat 5 cable. Actually, if you forget your cable, they have them there, free of charge.

Anyhow, the way it worked for us, is when we went to Internet Explore (E), a Mickey Connection site came up....and ask us to accept the agreement and agree to pay $9.95 for the next 24 hours, for internet use. Once we accepted, we were able to go to any site. But, there was a timer keeping track of the 24 hours.

Once that time was up, and you went to sign on again, the first Mickey Connection screen appeared again. My mother got quite good and accepting the $9.95 charge. We split it 3 ways, so the charge didn't seem to that far out of line.

We are going back to the Beach Club in a week and I plan on getting the internet 2 times and using it over 4 days....should work, right?

I hope this helps.

Here is some more info for you in case you want to use Wi-Fi(high speed wireless). This was posted on the Resorts board.

As of October 1, 2003, Disney's Coronado Springs Resort began offering high-speed Internet access in its guest rooms, at a charge of $4.95 per hour or $9.95 per 24 hour period. Within the next six months or so, all of Disney's convention hotels and Home-Away-From-Home/Disney Vacation Club resorts are scheduled to get high-speed Internet. Disney now offers Wi-Fi (high speed wireless Internet access) in the public areas of its convention hotels. You will need a Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer or PDA to access the Internet from designated areas of each resort. We had a thread on this a while ago. The most important thing to keep in mind is the placement of the wall connections. In a one bedroom the jack is by the dinning room table. If you are like me, and want to use your computer in the bedroom while others sleep in the living room, you will need to bring a long (25-30 ft) cable.

If you bring a wireless router, you could use the laptop all over the condo. It seems to work OK in the typical business hotels that I stay at... and I would assume the WDW service is similar. I'm not sure there is anything they could do to detect that it is a router that you are plugging into the wall vs a computer. Also... if you happen to have more than one computer, you have an advantage if you both want to use the internet at once... or if Disney charges a seperate fee (this is the usual case) per IP address. If you use a router... the only IP address that gets reported is the IP address of the router. You can set up WEP encryption if you do not want your condo neighbors using your connection, and stealing any of your bandwidth.

I brought a wireless-g access point and it worked fine. Picked it up for $20 and set it to only talk to my laptop's MAC address. I can't say whether a wireless router would work or not. Someone mentioned in the prior thread that a wireless router stood a good chance of conflicting with other network components.

The best answer is to "just say no" to work on vacation!

I am not interested in doing work!
I will be using the internet to plan the next days events for our trip as well as read up on things that are usually not fresh in my mind once I get to WDW.
and my daughter would be lost without being able to instant message with her friends....
