We stayed at AKV Concierge level last year in a studio and I had issues getting internet in the room itself. Out in the lounge area, I was able to pick up the WiFi - so I did not worry about it and just used it there.

But, this trip (we arrive Jan. 7! Yeah!) - I have to conduct a "live" class online via web cam (yes - work while on vacation - but my online teaching pays for my trips - so I don't complain about taking a couple hours of my vacation time). Therefore, I really need to work in my room this time for a couple hours...since I really don't want my students to see the lovely eats in the concierge lounge! Plus - I think I might annoy a few guests. :)

Anyone have any recent experience with internet access in their room on the concierge level? Thanks!

Our last two club level stays at AKV I had no problem with the internet connection. Our very first stay, there were issues but the third stay was actually in that same villa and it was fine. I would think all the villas are up and working well by now.

Do you have a day or so before the class to make certain it's working well?

Have lots of fun...what a magical place.:cloud9:

We had a problem getting "authorized" to get on in the beginnning of December, but a quick call to their Internet assistance line had us up and running in under 5 minutes.

Thanks BCV23 and thepops!

Since I could make the WiFi work in the lounge last January - I didn't try too hard to figure it out last time and the lounge was perfect in the morning for me to get my work done. (We stay in studios - so I get out of the room at 5am to work. Seems crazy - but worth it to me.)

And yes, I have a couple days to figure it out. We arrive on the 7th (first night in a value studio - then we move to concierge on the 8th for 4 nights), and I have my live class on the 10th - so I can play with it and make it work.

Also - it is a TRULY magical place! We were lucky enough to get concierge two years in a row (I called at 8am exactly 11 months out two years in a row!) and now I am COMPLETELY spoiled. We only have 50 points at AKV - so I believe I am out of points there for next year... but, it is SO worth it to spend 4 nights there in 2009 and now 2010.:lovestruc

If you have any problems give the tech support people a call. We had problems at BWV this year and when it turned out it wasn't a simple problem they sent someone to our room. He arrived within about 15-20 minutes and had us up and running in about 10 minutes. It turns out someone had unplugged a few things on the connection panel and plugged them back in incorrectly. The tech support guy said that it happens frequently.

We stayed in an AKV Concierge studio in October and had no problems at all with the in-room access. Good luck and have an awesome stay!

Just curious why you aren't planning on using the wired connection in your room?

That should have a more reliable connection, plus you have the privacy of your room.

That was going to be my question. The WiFi is intended for common area use, not in room use. You may get a signal, but I wouldn't think that you could get much speed.

Last July/August (2009) - I had trouble getting my Ipod Touch to pick up the WiFi in the lounge. I guess i will have to call the tech line when i get there this year.

Anyone have the number handy?

Rob :)

I just thought I was missing something. wired would be much better IMO for the reasons listed..

I assumed what the OP meant was that the wired connection in the room was not working so she went out to the lounge to use the WiFi instead. I agree that trying to use WiFi in the room is a gamble.

Dial 56 from your room. Yes, I've got it memorized. It seems that I have to call just about every time. Fortunately they are very helpful.

OK now here is a really dumb question. There is "free" Wi-Fi in the lounge? I was there in oct and the only way I was able to get on line was from my room. I am staying club level again in Feb/March for a week. I would love to take my Macbook out to the lounge and use it there. How can this be done?

Not a dumb question at all...

In fact, I was going to ask this as well, because when I first heard about WiFi in the hotels, I did hear that there was a fee for it. I wonder if this also applies to DVC guests, because in room WIRED internet is free.

Rob :)

WiFi is billed at $9.95 per 24 hour period at all resorts..

Several months ago Kidani was allowing free WiFi, but an investigation by this reporter determined that Disney's network vendor was waiting for a piece of equipment that processes the WiFi billing.

I was going to check if it is still free while I was there last month but I forgot.

Given a choice, I always will use the faster, secured hard wired connection.

Thanks again all.

To answer a couple questions- I have stayed DVC resorts for the last 5 years. I am familiar with the free in room wired internet and have used it in other resorts - BCV and BWV without many issues.

However, for whatever reason, last January at AKV concierge level, the wired internet was having issues. I did not have the patience to deal with it, so I just used the WiFi in the concierge lounge. And yes, for more speed and privacy for my class - I need to use the wired connection on this trip - and it sounds like the bugs I was having have been fixed - or maybe it was just me having issues! And if I have issues this time, I will need to find some patience and fix them with the tech support folks.

As for "free" WiFi - last year on the concierge level, it was free and I had no troubles accessing it. In previous years, I have used "fee based" WiFi in the lobby at the Contemporary. To gain access, you had to provide a credit card number.

Again, my patience level probably just caused my problems last year... no patience to fix the in room wired issue, so I walked down the hall and accessed the WiFi internet and had some yummy snacks at the same time. :)

Thanks again! I leave in 3 days. Yeah me!

Sorry to bust in on the convo... I'm staying at my friends DVC room at BWV...how do I access the free internet? Do I have to put in a special code or ask my friend for his member number?

Thanks!

If your KTTW card is printed with the words "DVC Member" your internet access will be free. Access your browser and follow the instructions.
