international dinner/epcot

hi everyone. we are interested in the international dinner/illuminations dessert grand gatherings event. has anyone ever done this? what kind of food do they serve? i know it takes 2 table services on the dining plan, but we wanted to know a little more detail. we've done the fireworks cruise before and loved it. also, isn't there another thing similar to this (not a grand gatherings event) which you can dine at a restaurant in epcot and then have preferred setting for illuminations?
