International College Program

Marjorie...I thought of Brynna too when I heard about it... :sad2:

I can't imagine how that family must be feeling and it's a shame Brynna was there when it happened. Glad to hear they lined up some grief counselling for those CMs. That's going to be hard to get out of her head...

I've been following along with your thread ladies. I hope that Bryanna is going to be ok. That must have been awful for her to see and that poor family to go thru. :grouphug:

Marilynn

How is Brynna doing Marjorie? I hope today is a better day for all..

I heard that it is most likely that the poor boy had a congenital heart defect but that makes the pain no more tolerable for his poor family. You'd always wonder what did I miss and if only we hadn't gone that day....ohhhhh...so painful.

I went shopping in Buffalo today. The wait to get over at Lewiston was really looooong..but once we hit the Outlet mall and the Coach factory store all was forgiven ;) Seems we all had the same idea to hit the U.S today!

Now I am sitting here waiting for my husband to take me to dinner (I mean, I have had a hard day at the Mall!) but he is trying to fix my washer! Grrr....it began leaking yesterday and I am lost without it. By the time we bought the parts I am thinking we could/should have bought a new one but it isn't that old really...maybe 6 years??

Well, what do you ladies have planned for the weekend?? I think I am going to see "The Devil wears Prada'...looks funny and I love Meryl Streep..and tomorrow I am meeting a friend for lunch and other than that, no big whoop around here!

Back later to see what's doing..
Karen

Hey Karen and Marjorie!

Sorry to hear about your washer Karen...

Marjorie...I hope Brynna is coping okay and bouncing back from the tragedy yesterday.

It's going to be interesting to see if the shuttle goes off tomorrow Karen. For Shanan's sake, I hope it does!

Shayna is really in the groove now. For all the humming and hawing both Shayna and Shanan were doing about going out for character tryouts, it seems they would have been turned away anyway. You couldn't try unless you could extend...

Shayna had decided that she really loves her work in Toontown and would miss it. From what I read on Shanan's blog, she was feeling the same way.

I was actually saying to Shayna today that she should be doing a blog like everyone else is. She is keeping a journal, but I think a blog would be fun!

I envy your trip coming up Karen. You must be very excited! I've thought about another quick trip down, but it was much harder to leave than I thought it would be. Quite honestly, I'm having a harder time since being back than the 4 weeks prior to going...? Isn't that weird? Especially now that we know she's doing great and really enjoying herself. It also doesn't help that I'm in a household of MEN and I'm noticing it. I miss her so....

Okay...sorry for the downer...it's all very confusing to me at the moment. Chalk it up to hormones I guess...

Have a great weekend ladies! I'm looking forward to getting some housework done around here, and a nice BBQ at my folks (who live down the street) for my dad's 65th birthday! Should be nice. No staying home and sticking a fork in my eye this weekend! lol

Washer is fixed, now I get to clean under it as it is pulled out and in good conscience I cannot have it put back with what I now know is under there!! :scared1: I think there's people living under there! ICK!

I hope too that the shuttle goes as planned!! For that $$$ and I know they are so looking forward to it...to have to schedule it all over agin would be a pain, for the kids..not NASA :teeth:

I didn't know that about the extending part...just as well. I think where they aer fits nicely for this time! Just think how far Shanan and Shayna have come...Brynna settled quickly which is a bonus Marjorie ...now they are all enjoying and that's great.

Ohhh Bonnie, I know how it feels to miss them. We all have those times. It is hard and I am grateful I have another daughter at home (most of the time!) for a little estrogen here and there!! Just think, sadly the way time flies you will be there again with her. Hang in there Mom :grouphug: We're always here to help lift that lower lip!

Meanwhile, why not keep an eye out for a good DING and consider a few days? Wish I could help with the hormones but mine too are raging, waning and ALL over the place! Some days are very emotional ones and if I have a glass (or 2) of wine even more so. I'm a wreck.

Have a nice b'day with your Dad this weekend. That sounds much better than last weekend and the 'near eye mishap'!!! :magnify:

Well, off to the dark side of the washing machine!
Enjoy your weekend ladies!
Karen

Hey Karen...I was sorry to hear that the shuttle didn't go off yesterday. How's that work out for Shanan? Is she going back today? What a shame...

Shayna called yesterday and we had a great chat! She is now realizing how hard it's going to be to leave! From one extreme to another! She absolutely loves the heat and is really enjoying her work.

I think she and Shanan were hoping to go see The Devil Wears Prada last night, but she wasn't sure what time Shanan would be back...

Have a great day!

Bonnie

I have no idea Bonnie?? I haven't talked to Shanan in a couple of days...she had 2 long work days then yesterday I presumed she was off...and I think she is working today though not sure???? I will check her blog to see if she has updated anything there.

I am sure it will be hard for all of them to leave....lots of tears. They really have 'moved in' haven't they?

Hope they got to see that movie..I was going to see it tonight but looks like now we are off to Guelph to put Shelby's (other daughter) furniture together that was delivered last week...so maybe tomorrow we'll get to it.

Another warm one out there...I guess it will be even hotter pretty soon for me! My friend Brenda that is coming to WDW with me just left and we managed to snag a good deal on a mid-size car through Priceline for our stay. $15 per day! Not bad huh? We tried for a Buffalo hotel for the night prior to leaving but no luck..so we'll do that again in a few days too. We have been trying the car all week and finally they took our bid. The closer to needing it, the better the odds get!

Is your Dad's b'day today?? Perfect day for it! What are you up to this weekend Marjorie? Hope Brynna is doing better?

Well..I am off to Wal-mart to try to get a patio umberella for Shelby's house..I gave her all my patio furniture but the umberella was shot..and they are getting pretty hard to find out there!

Enjoy the rest of your day ladies! You too Marilynn! :wave2: Maybe one day one of your kids will end up as a CM and you'll remember all of our woes and chatter!

Bye for now, Karen

Hi Ladies! Wasn't around this weekend so I'm busy getting caught up on the boards. Headed over to Vancouver to visit with my sister and my mom who came down from the Kamloops area for the weekend. Our mission was to get great deals on clothing for our mom, for our cruise and WDW in December. She needed to be outfitted from the inside out and we made an awesome dent in her list, only a few things left to get. Managed to pick up a few items for myself too......

Again, another hot weekend, wasn't complaining though, if I did it might rain! Fortunately my sis has AC, so it wasn't hellish.

Brynna is doing better after that "day" but was down quite a bit for awhile. She passed her assessment and is now an official RCR CM and very happy about it too. Says the place was really quiet for a few days though, not much traffic thru the coaster. Out of her 3 days off, she worked 2 of them which made her happy. Now she's caught a dreaded summer cold and is trying to fight that off.

Ooh, hoping to see "Prada" ourselves, maybe next weekend. I'm 3/4 thru the book which I'm quite enjoying.

Brynna rode Pirates last night, sounded like an awesome ride with lots of "Jack" in it. Looking forward to doing it myself, only another month!

Getting closer to your trip Karen, bet you're getting excited! Not many sleeps left. We also PL'd our car for $17/day which I thought was great.

Well, gotta go unpack my stuff and start some laundry. Back to the grind tomorrow.

Take care ladies!

Marjorie

Hey!

Hope all is well with the two of you!

I went out today and picked up tickets to see POTC2 on Saturday night! Woohoo! Gotta love Johnny Depp!

Shayna was telling me about going to see 'Prada' with Shanan on Saturday night. Seems they snagged 2 viewings and didn't get home until close to 5 a.m.! Oh to be young and crazy!

Shayna's so happy to be in WDW for the 4th of July! She's really an American at heart - always has been - and has asked to go somewhere in the US for the 4th for years now. She finally got her wish and in the best place possible! She was saying the fireworks last night and tonight are over the top great!

Keep in touch. Keep me posted on Brynna and Shanan... :goodvibes

Just a fast post..
It's been an awful 12+ hours..
My little kitty who is 8 was admitted to the Emerg animal hosp last night with what appears to be a blood clot that has lodged in his spine. They are doing all they can, incl blood thinners, morphine to keep him comfortable, chest x-rays which showed fluid in one lung and one side of his heart enlarged plus plus plus. He is now waiting to be seen by a Cardiologist...say a little paryer...he really is the most lovely little guy. I had to be careful about posting here until Shanan was told...I don't think she peeks what we are saying (not exciting enough!) but I could take the chance.

I just hope they can offer some hope...imagine if this had happened next week?

I will be back to update, take care all

Ohh Karen...I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty... :grouphug:

Having pets can be so hard, especially at times like this...

Keep us posted...

Pixie dust your way........

Sorry to hear about your kitty Karen, I hope he's doing better. We lost our Punkin last year, she was 12 though.

Take care.

Marjorie

Our little boy was put to sleep this afternoon. Our hearts are absolutely broken....

He took a turn for the worse and there was no hope.
He had a heart ultrasound as well as many other tests and it was found he had a clot in his heart, his back leg, as well as chronic heart diease. That amazed me at the age of 8..very robust kitty and raised only on Veterinary supplied food?? Had they managed to stabilize his heart and somehow got his legs mobile..with meds and frequent bloodwork, he MAY have had 3 - 6 months. His quality of life would not have been great so I asked God to make the decision if he could not make him well, and he did.
Of course the very hard part is Shanan and her broken heart away from home when something like this happens. Not easy...though in a way perhaps easier than being here in this very sad house...

If this had happened next week I would have had to cancel WDW so my little buddy knew..now I am waiting for the 2 kitties left behind to notice ..oh no more little furries for me.

Hope you girls are well and thank you for your kind thoughts...I will be back soon
Karen

So sorry to hear about the little guy Karen. It's so tough to grieve a pet, glad to hear that you've others to give you some comfort.

As for Shanan, yeah it would be hard on her, but maybe better that she's away. It's a good thing that you'll be there to see her next week, something for her to look forward to, and for you too.

Take care.....

Marjorie

:cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi All,

Ok, I am not from canada..but am from Syracuse New York...close enough.....I would like to be a part of your forum/thread....

My daughter Carla (18) aka C-Nyce will be leaving for disney August 21st. She's my only child and it is going to be real tough on me to let her go..So far she's really excited about leaving...my only concern --- this will be her first time actually being on her own..

Going some where,,,where she doesn't know anyone....for the mom who has only one child...was it difficult for you to see her go?

I will be driving her down..spending the first day helping her settle in the apartment...the second day...if needed I will help with her paper work....the hardest part for me will be leaving her.

Can someone anyone everyone please let me know what I can expect the first during her checkin process....what is day two like?

I hope to hear from all of you...please if you don't mind please respond to me in a private message...I am having the hardest time.. trying to find, figure out where I post thread.....LOL

Thanks moms

Hello!

Welcome to our little band of mothers! :)

Congratulations to your daughter - I'm sure she must be very excited!

I too was considering traveling with Shayna down to start her program, but realized that she would be incredibly busy from the minute she arrived. I'm not sure what the 2nd day will be for US citizens...our girls had to visit the Social Security office and do tons of paperwork, but it's probably a lot easier as a US citizen. Quite honestly, I doubt you will be able to be with your daughter on the 2nd day...? Even the apartment move in might be a problem...I'm not sure. I don't remember Shayna saying that anyone's parents were there... :confused3

I won't candy coat it for you....it's tough to let them go. Shayna's not an only child, but she's my first born and my only girl. It sucks some days...

The only thing that makes me feel good, is what this experience is doing for her and how much she will have matured having gone through this experience. I envy her youth and her being able to live out a dream! That's what gets me through. It's the selfish mom part that gets me down. If I focus on the good this is doing for Shayna, then I'm good. That simple!

Take care and again...welcome! :)

Karen...hope you're coping...I saw Shanan's update on her blog. Has to be tough, but I'm glad Shayna's been able to help a little. My biggest fear (and Shayna's too) is that something will happen to our dog while she's gone, so Shayna definitely understands how hard this must be for Shanan.

I'm glad you have your trip to look forward to. You must be very anxious to see Shanan! :)

Hopefully, you'll get a chance to meet Shayna and say Hi! I'm sorry that I didn't get more of a chance to visit with Shanan when I was down. The girls have really bonded and I know it's going to be hard when they leave!

Take care...Happy Monday! :)

Hey moms! Just thought I'd drop in, see how you all are doing.

Pretty quiet weekend, worked at the cruise agency yesterday and saw POC 2 last night, awesome movie! Didn't even seem like we were there 2.5 hours. Now I'm really looking forward to doing the ride. Today we saw Devil Wears Prada. It was too a very good movie. Just finished reading the book a couple of days ago and it was pretty true to it.

Haven't MSNd with Brynna since early yesterday when I was purchasing tix to John Mayer/Sheryl Crow that we're going to see in September. She had been working all week with a day off yesterday, work today, and then 2 more days off. I know she hasn't seen much of Shanan & Shayna lately, she was so bummed that everyone was off to see Pirates without her! I guess her schedule didn't mesh with anyone else's, even her roomies, that she was contemplating going on her own. Hopefully she found someone to go with.

Have a good week ladies........

Marjorie

Gosh, our little group is growing. Pretty soon we can blog our own support group for the College Program!

I just read Shanan's update, she was very quiet and I was worried..
Of course, there's no need to wash the make up off now!! Gosh, it's so very hard. I think had this sadly been our doggie, it would have been expected in some way as she is very old and each day is a bonus..but 8 years old just blew us all away. It's really dealt a huge blow to our house..in some ways I think it's better that Shanan was not here, but then I am not sure how it's been being alone there?? I do thank Shayna and Brynna for being there to support her though, thank you so much. Shanan really loved this little guy...coming home without him here will be the next hurdle that I don't look forward to!

Well...It's been a pretty quiet weekend, everyone is trying so hard to keep me busy that I am worn out! I did lunch Fri with 1 friend, lunch Sat with another, a BBQ Sat night with yet another...I think they think I might jump or something! :confused3 It's been great for the spirits tho...if only to keep my mind diverted here and there.

I am till trying to get to 'The Devil wears Prada' movie...I told Shelby tonight maybe, then I didn't feel like it, so perhaps tomorrow? I must make the effort especially as I am leaving her Tuesday! She was invited mind you...

I look forward to hopefully meeting Shayna and Brynna and Kevin and John and all these other names that Shanan has become friends with. I am so happy that Shanan has a couple of days off with us...I can really see how she's doing.

I will pop back tomorrow...
Good Nite all
Kaen

To post a 'see ya later' to you all!
We are off tomorrow around 3 and will shop around Buffalo...got the Holiday Inn on Priceline and we leave the next a.m. Shanan e-mailed today to say that she also has Sun/Mon off so how lucky are we?? Four days with my baby, I cannot wait.

I will pop by from WDW on Shanan's laptop I hope??
Everyone take care and I look soooo forward to meeting your babies!!! :thumbsup2

See u soon
Karen :wave2:
