Not sure if you've seen them - or care - though I'm sure there will be TONS of negative responses - I'm not after that - I just thought the #s were interesting...

Just how big is Walmart?

This should boggle your mind!!

1 . At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2 . This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears +
Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (including Winn-Dixie).

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

Very interesting, and I'm a Wal-Martaholic. Hey, maybe we should start a Walmartaholics support group.:rotfl2:

Wow! Knew it was big....but didn't realize it was that big! I think of it as a necessary evil, but avoid it all costs during the weekend.

I wish they'd hurry up and get a Supercenter here! I'm sick of paying inflated grocery prices.

I'm curious about #5 stating that Wal-Mart is the largest private employer. The reason I ask is that one of the WDW shows on the travel channel states that Disney is the single largest which they are including all their parks around the world and their cruise line.

I think they are in America, Wal Mart doesn't have a prescence internationally do they?

They're the largest private employer in the state of WV. That trumps our news yearly.

We have ASDA here which is owned by Wal Mart. They even have George stores that sell clothing in the malls here. So that is a few more employees to add. I have seen Wal Mart in Germany also. They are everywhere:confused3

Oh, wow. I didn't realize that.
Learn something new all the time on these boards!! :goodvibes

Wal-mart is virtully everywhere (but not in Belgium :( )
No negative reactions from me. Walmart is succesful because of reasons, and all the other supermarkets/ grocery stores were free to come up with teh same strategy/ investments to get that big. But they didn't. End of story, no need to be jalous (sp??).

I think WDW is the largest single-site employer.

Am I the only one here who believes that Walmart is evil?

I wish I had a Wal-Mart near me. I have to drive about a half hour to get to one. Maryland is very anti-Wal-Mart...I don't anticipate getting one near me any time soon...it's a shame.

Nope! :thumbsup2 I'll join your I Hate Walmart club.

I think that any company that is that insidious is an evil monopoly. Don't even get me started on the whys.

Have you seen the movie "The High Cost of Low Prices"?

ETA that I am proud that our community successfully fought off the building of a Walmart here. For those who insist on shopping there, there are 2 Mallwarts within 10 miles.

ETA again - OMG! I just saw this commercial about Walmart and China (look in the middle of the page) - what a coincidence! This website just reinforces my beliefs.

PS: I have no association with this website. I've seen it before, but had forgotten about it.

I hate WalMart too. They tend to have lower quality merchandise, and having items that break or get worn out quickly just doesn't justify saving a couple of dollars here or there.

I really hate Walmart after seeing a PBS show about them a couple of years ago. It went into detail about how they strong-armed and bullied companies into allowing Walmart to sell items for less than what it actually cost the company to make them. When a company wouldn't play, Walmart wouldn't carry their product, or they'd relegate it to a very small section of shelf space at the very top or very bottom.

Despite the lower prices, I'd much rather pay a little more for quality goods. And I have never been in a clean, inviting Walmart. The one near my old apartment in Bowie, MD was scary. And the clientele were scarier.
