Interesting survey

Now that I re-read it. Maybe it's a drink all you want type of thing, but only 2 of them are alcohol. So basically the resort mug concept in the parks, but you can fill your mug twice with a margarita or something, the rest of the time you are on sprite, ice tea or whatever.

I like it. I'd like to have 2 TS and 1 CS credit per day for less than deluxe dining plan costs...since they don't offer that we could do regular DP and pay $30 to basically get that 2nd TS credit. Though it only saves you $10/pp/day off the deluxe DP cost and you get 1 less snack per day. Hmmmm, not really a deal now is it. But we wouldn't do it every day...so yeah, we'd do it once or twice per trip. We've used the TIW card the past several years but with the increased cost, I think we'll go back to the DP for our next big trip.

Don't think so from the description. Since beer is like $7 a serving, two cocktail would easily exceed $18, just not by much. Depends on how big a drinker you are if you're going to drink those two cocktails every day.

My thoughts exactly. Wouldn't do the $30 often, but I'd like the option to squeeze in a signature meal once in a while while only using 1 TS credit.

I'm tired of Disney adding alcohol at their parks. Providing more opportunities for people to drink in these parks, or making it easier for people, is not attractive to me. I just got back last night from 5 days in Orlando and every bus I rode at night (with my kids) had 4-10 people that were so drunk that their loud raucous ramblings were hilarious to themselves but not those around them. Beyond that, I sat through the Star Wars making of movie in DHS with a family where the parents were clearly drunk out of their minds, and were toting their kids through stuff. These are parks designed for families, keep them family friendly. EPCOT has a totally different feel, and I have never had that problem there (including this trip), so maybe that doesn't attract people that don't know their limits. It is just unappealing to take my kids places where adults are out of control, and I miss the alcohol free environment that used to be in the major parks (except EPCOT).

1- I can appreciate not wanting to have kids around drunks. Were you there near NY Eve? I know HS and EPCOT had more alcohol kiosks out due to the nature of the crowds.

2- The alcohol FREE environment has only been MK, the other parks have always served alcohol(if not always, for a very long time). I don't think the alcohol at Be Our Guest, is a place where people are pounding drinks (not that there can't be an exception).

3- We were at Disney World for 5 days including NYE. There were definitely some people who had drank too much, but I would expect that on NYE, and the nature of the crowds.

4- I think your concern is valid, and on my trip in March, will be interested to see if I observe more alcohol related issues, or was it just unfortunate timing for you.

I would definitely recommend emailing guest services with your concern.

Of course Disney will jump those individual drink prices up to $14.00 each, and promote the value of their $18.00 Specialty Drink Package

What are you basing that on? When has Disney ever pulled a scam similar to this before? I mean...do you think ill of the magic peddlers?

I'm assuming your kidding right? In case you're not lets use the most recent $100+ AP price increase with the "free" Photopass included. We can go back to when they rolled out the Magic your way tickets as well and made everything ala carte with a significant price increase.

OP: did you get the sense that these add-ons were being floated as part of a mandatory purchase with a free dining pkg? As in, with last Fall's Free Dining, a park hopper or water park pass had to be purchased as part of the booking?

...those are good examples too.

I was referencing the dining plan - which I warned against/railed about since day 1. What happened there is they hooked people early - as expected...

Then they reduced the quality of the food nearly across the board (loch dart salmon, anyone?), reduced what was included across the board (who needs an appetizer and OF COURSE the waiters "hated" a guaranteed gratuity...so out of pocket was better for them :sad2: ), jacked...without question...the price of the food on almost all menus which put the screws to anyone not using the plan to try and force conformity, and the slow bleed over time that has vastly taken anyway any variation/choice on the menus of 60 different restaurants...

At first to trick you into spending more money at the giftshops...where they had steam lined/gutted the quality also...then later just to make you eat more, full priced, proportionally cheaper food.

I mean...who coulda saw that coming?

It's not like there's a round the clock "free dining" watch now around here or anything...like salmon swimming up stream to spawn...

No puns intended.

I 'm glad you mentioned the DP. I did not have specifics to mention since we have only used once about 7 years ago.

I call it the "Orlando screwjob". In many ways it ruined dining.

Disney dining prior to about 2006 was really a delight...a highlight and what made the place unique.

It's still good...but not as good. And once the slide starts its hard to stop.

No, I was there this past week (Jan. 13-17) leading up to MLK holiday weekend. We saw people on Thursday and Friday that were clearly out of their minds drunk, and did point them out to Disney CM's. I have had the problem before in the summer as well. Maybe I'm just too old to remember (barely in my 40's), but it just seems like this isn't the location, and I am surprised that Disney is trying to find ways to make it easier for people to drink alcohol in the parks.

Interesting. Joking but I find it surprising that they can afford to drink enough to get drunk! If we take it a step further I think it could get worse. Fewer rides and attractions for the next year or two means less time spent at HS and EPCOT. This means less revenue, so make it up with alcohol sales.

It also means there is less to do in those parks, especially for the 20-somethings that are more interested in thrill rides, and they are left with limited options to fill the day. Alcohol becomes one of those options. If your fastpass is 4 hours away, and there is nothing else you want to ride/watch, perhaps a few extra drinks passes the time. I should mention that it isn't a massive problem, but my last four trips (last week, 4th of July weekend, June 2014 and December 2013) all experienced seriously intoxicated people at EPCOT and DHS.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Just raise the price of alcohol. You solve 2 problems, you make the potential drink option with dp more attractive and reduce the amount folks can afford to drink!
