Interesting observations on the Magic 2/2

What did really annoy me was the guy a few tables over that wore his shorts and tropical shirt to formal night WITH A PENN STATE CAP on his head. If he were within arms reach, I would have knocked that hat right off his head. You don't eat dinner with your baseball hat on. This guy was about 45 years old and should know better. :sad2:

Chill Francis. Anyone wearing a Penn State Cap is good by me.

After reading this thread and the concerns about the 2yo watch TV during dinner, I think the HAT (sadly a PSU cap) on the head of 45 yo in shorts and shirt on formal night was much more offensive. We almost skipped formal nights on our last cruise b/c I ddin't bring tuxes!!!! (Our waitstaff convinced us to come anyway in our suit coats, tie, and long dress . . .)

Has anyone seen how other cruises enforce the dress policy?

Personally, I would have gone over to his table and asked him if he had lost his luggage? And maybe if his mother never taught him to REMOVE his hat indoors? . . LOL (could that be b/c of the constant harping I have to do to my boys to keep THEIR hats off indoors??)

As for the 2 yo watching TV . . .although I think that our younger generation is being put into a stupor by TV and Video games in general, I believe these parents were attempting to think of the other diners (and probably themselves as well) in making sure that their 2 yo could handle the length of the dinner. When you travel with a 2 yo, you need to prepared for their needs. They grow up pretty fast :)

I wouldn't let the guy in the shorts and hat ruin my dinner. I would probably just laugh at him, like I do the ladies in slippers and curlers when I see them at the grocery store.

Thank you for reminding me that I should not judge. And your points were good ones, ones that I had not thought of. I'm the 1st to plug in a movie at home so I can get things done, so I'm not perfect either. But I did think it was strange. I didn't think of the other reasons they might need the DVD player, and I apologize if I upset someone. :guilty:

Thank You for coming back to the thread and saying this.... This actually means more to some of us than the negative stuff that is said, especially the parents that already feel everyone in society is JUDGING them when all of the factors can not been seen.... So thank you for the warm fuzzie feeling....

As long as your little darlings aren't bothering me bring what ever you need to dinner. (If it is a movie and you are right next to me I would appreciate some ear/head phones though ;) )

About wearing a hat to dinner.....some people cover their heads for medical reasons and some people cover their heads for religious reasons. Not wearing a hat indoors is a religious tradition in the United States - so please know that not everybody follows it and we shouldn't hold others to those standards without realizing their origin.

MY humble opinion,
