Interesting news on mug front

I just read this too.It does say that they will be offered as part of the dining plan package. There is no alternative to this mug!

Yes i read that too, also can be used in any resort. Interesting as that was a big no no before

I always thought the mug could be used at any resort anyway. How was that policed as the mugs were all the same?I dont think that this is going to make a huge difference for the UK market, as most of us stay for more than 4 days and i pessume if we wanted a mug we would want it for the entire stay.

They were only ever for your resort you were staying in for lenght of stay etc

They used to be resort specific mugs before they changed them to a generic design.

I miss the old mugs, they were a great collectible souvenir.

The newer ones are just naff - and haven't changed from our last trip (we have four from last year). Disney cost saving again I guess.

Yes we have a collection of All Star & Pop mugs in our cupboard, infact we have a cupboard full of Disney mugs dating back to 1991, my favourite being the Blizzard Beach 1997:thumbsup2

I thought that had changed when they changed to the generic design. I know it was still frowned upon on some of the forums but I thought that was just overspill from when they had resort specific mugs. I know I bought one in the Poly even though we were staying at OKW, nothing to say it was only to be used in the Poly. Not sure of true facts, only used ours at OKW when we had the DISmeet so it would have been a waste of money to be only used at OKW(that was 2 years ago, last year we got them free)

Same here. We used ours at the poly and AOA this time. At the end of the day the current mugs look the same so it is very hard to tell who is staying where. Another vote for dedicated resort mugs. Have 2 pop 1CBR and 1POR

Wow, that's a major price hike for 4+ days! :scared1:

We always do the dining plan but one year when we didn't I felt the mug was excellent value for money for a long stay. It still is but wow, that's still quite a hike.

So for those of us who stay more than 14 nights, I wonder how we request/get the mug validated for that extended period (?) I hope it's not going to become a major confusion for staff members who are used to dealing primarily with stays of up to 10 days

I guess this is their way of policing the mug system. They shot themselves in the foot by having multiple policies over the years which is what has led to confusion, arguments on forums like this and just a general nightmare in terms of trying to manage the mug system. This should simplify it for them.

I'm sure they are also going to be collecting data from this RFID chip on guests' habits and preferences which will no doubt be used for future marketing, policy and cost tweaks ......!

if you read under the frequently ask questions it has in there this.

Can non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests purchase and use the mug?
Yes. Anyone can purchase and use the Rapid Fill mugs at any resort self-service beverage station.

That's really interesting. I hadn't even thought about bringing our mugs back for our next holiday, but if lots of people do I can see that it needs to be policed better.

Looking forward to seeing these on our next trip - hopefully by then the water park option will be available too.

Not only do people take back old mugs they also use other containers. We have seen people using things like McD paper cups. Also see CM's filling bottles to take out. System has been totally abused.

Are there any plans to change the waterpark system? although there is a way to skirt the rules it isn't abused as much as the resorts.

Anyone else also thinking that if non-Disney Guests are able to purchase the mugs and use at any resort self-service beverage station, then might that tempt more off-site guests to visit a different Disney resort each day and not only enjoy refills all day long but also the other resort facilities?

Some of the Disney resorts don't allow pool hoping but for those resorts that do, how will they stop non-Disney guest from using the other resort facilities especially when promoting non-guest can top up their beverage mug at any resort?

Might pools get packed a lot quicker than normal with this tempting offer?

My first thought was hectic food courts! There seems to be becoming less and less incentive to fork out the extra premium for onsite stays as they are continuously reducing onsite perks in little bits and pieces and then adding benefits to those staying offsite. This, coming from an advocate for onsite stays .........

No resorts allow pool hopping (not that I've ever had an ID checked. Closest we came was at BLT where you need your KTTW to open the gate)

I can't see it'll bring that many extra offsite visitors into the resorts.

Would you bother leaving a theme park to pay $9 for a mug that you can only fill at hotels you're not staying in? I can't see the logic in doing so.

But then I also can't understand pool hopping as I'd only ever swim at my resort so I had somewhere to shower and change afterwards.

Doesn't mention that yet. But it does say that you'll be able to use the new resort mugs at waterparks.

That's a nice bonus.

Although we don't carry anything at the waterparks so just drink from the water fountains.

A good way to stop the current system being abused I guess. I think the resort mugs offer good value for money, especially for the UK market. Less than £1 per person per day (in the majority of cases I would assume!) for unlimited branded drinks in your hotel. For me, it's a no brainer!

It works for some, not for others.
Trailing to the fountains can be very inconvenient, quality of soda is very mixed, some don't taste great (I assume the mix with water direct from the tap, this varies in taste) some machine are not very fizzy etc.

We prefer bottled, cost $1.37 for 2L for Coca Cola in April.
