This came up on another thread but I wanted to post it here so we can discuss it more completely. Apparently, the Guides are telling prospective purchasers that the incentives for BLT are completely going away on June 15th (but that incentives will remain for the other resorts).

DH and I discussed it briefly and we both laughed because we would have paid the full $112/point for BLT had we had no other choice, but I find it so difficult to believe, in these economic times, that DVC wouldn't be offering an incentive of some sort for BLT.

What do you guys think? Are the Guides just blowing smoke or could there be something to this rumor??

I've been looking into BLT and while my guide did not speculate on future incentives, he did indicate that they projected BLT would sell out by year end.

Even with that tidbit of information, I still find it hard to believe in these economic times there will be no incentives but you never know. Personally as great as I think BLT is if they got rid of the incentives I would no longer consider BLT and would opt to go resale.

I think there is a good chance they will go away, but for not very long.

Back in January, they told everyone that they would be raising the minimum buy in at BLT for new members to 200 points, and the minimum add on for existing members to 100 points.

On Jan. 15th, the new member minimum never went up but the add on level did--for about 1 month!!! They reverted back, I believe, because sales, went down, way down, for add ons.

It will be the same with BLT. Right now, they may have gotten a lot of interest and sales because the price per point discounts are great. They may want to test the markets to see what happens.

But I predict, if they go away, it won't be for more than a month. Actually, it could work for them. Take something away that is working so that those that missed out feel disappointed.

When you add it back, those buyers who missed it the first time might jump on board (sooner than they plan) just to be sure they don't miss it again!

It certainly will be interesting over the next month! I can't wait!!!

It would be interesting to see a historical account of incentives by season. I wonder if this possible change may be due to the timing (going into peak season.) DVC (unfortuantely) is an impulse by some while they are at WDW and don't take the time or effort to research it. I could see them adjusting incentives to appeal more to that crowd than the existing DVC member looking to add on points or add a new home to their portfolio.

Unfortunately, the economy and those high point levels for BLT rooms is my cure for add-onitis for awhile. I think my only cure in the short term would be the announcement of a Poly DVC :rotfl:

Remember that Guides are in the business of selling timeshares. They might sometimes be more willing to pass along rumors that they hear if those rumors lead you to purchase sooner rather than later.

Just sayin'.

Just to clarify, are you saying all guides are telling all customer that (which would mean a lot) or just reporting that it's happened once or twice?

Breaking news.

Disney management is smarter then we give them credit for. They have learned telling the guides ANYTHING is one step behind making a press release in terms of "confidential". So they don't tell them things since they can't keep thier mouths shut!

I don't know if all the guides are saying this, but my guide also said the same thing as OP last Friday. She said they had a meeting that morning and the guides were all surprised to hear they were pulling back the incentives. The reasoning she gave was that the building will be open and will sell itself- they won't need an incentive.

...then again, BLT might be selling so well (yes, even in these tough economic times) that they do not need to offer incentives. :goodvibes

And, of course, we on The DIS can't keep our mouths shut either because we're always looking out for our DIS peeps. :rotfl:

I talked with my guide today and he said the same thing--all incentives for BLT are going away in mid June.

I am going to start my add on process the first week in June, just in case he is right. I was going to do it in August anyway and this is just a bit sooner. I think I will be able to time the payments to my Disney Visa so that I don't end up having to pay until August anyway--not that it is a big deal since I will get 6 months, interest free to pay it off!

Are they still doing 6 months no interest for the total amount on the Disney Visa card, not just the down payment??

Then entire cost of my BLT add on, which I just put on my card in March, is getting the 6 months, no interest.

And, I am still using the card. I pay off my charges in full each month, along with 1/6 of the DVC balance. I have incurred no finances charges to date.

I was expecting to only get it for the down payment, but all the charges from DVC (it went to the card in three separate amounts), qualified. And, the last charge, the balance, was way more than the $2500.00 limit I had been told about.

Hmmm, I find it hard to believe that in this economy BLT will sell out by the end of the year. Then again, if I am wrong, don't worry. There are already BLT resales occuring.

Disney started the year with over 4 million BLT points left. They are on tract to sell between 3.0 and 3.5 million points total (and that includes SSR, AKV, VGC, etc.) No way they sell out this year.

In April alone, they declared units into DVC inventory 3 times (the last on April 21st). This batch includes 32 2-br units (some dedicated, some lock-off), and 4 GV's. They've worked up to the 6th floor now, as well as some GV's that are on the 15th/16th floors, and a few 2-br's on the 15th floor.

I'm curious how you came by these numbers. Are you projecting ahead the sales to date and extending that average, without factoring in more sales during the very busy summer months? If (in specific) BLT sales are HOT, they don't need to offer incentives.

If a product is selling like crazy, why put it on sale??
