Interesting first page of Theme Park Attactions & Strategies

Just popped in to see what's exciting here on the Dis Boards and I noticed that 8 of the topics on the first page deal with park add-ons or special park events:
HEA dessert party
MNSSHP
MVMCP
Frozen dessert party
MK Morning Magic
Fireworks cruises

What's interesting is how much those add-ons have become a normal part of a WDW visit. I'm not complaining about it since it's still up to the person to purchase if they want to, but all of these have just become the way it is now. Going forward with Star Warsland I would assume there will be lots of special add-ons available (including the hotel experience to start with).

Times change, and the topics on the boards change too.

Nice for people that want something special on top of being at Disney and willing to fork over the money to it, but I'm not in that group.

And just to add: on the 2nd page, Disney After Hours (DAH) and the SW Dessert Party information can be found.

Lots of upcharge events in addition to all the available tours and Dining Packages.

Yup, we've done MNSSHP twice, this year will be our third, and we've done EMM twice, with our third time also planned for this year.

In the past DH and I did a Segway tour in Epcot on our adult only trip, and when my kids were little they did a pirate boat thing at the GF. But now it feels like a money grab to me to pay to watch fireworks etc.... JMHO . We had a great trip last month with no extras.

Dessert parties are ok once. Ticketed parties are unique and fun. The rest just not my thing.

Yes...we do the Christmas party and EMM at MK each time we visit, if it is offered, and love both. We really feel it is some of the best money we spend while at WDW and both events add a lot to our trip. Now certain events, I would never do and don't feel it is a good value for what you get, but each person's opinion differs on that.

I hadn't thought about it, but you're right, there's LOTS of interest/discussion about add-ons. They are obviously very popular.
DH and I did our first MVMCP last November and really enjoyed it.
We will be doing EMM and MNSSHP for the first time this September. Can't wait!
That said, I definitely consider those things splurges.

I have always enjoyed the ticketed parties but don’t care for the dessert parties (1 and done). I refuse to pay for EMM. It’s going to be the demise of EMH and is already the culprit for the shortened hours at MK this summer IMO.

In addition to the EMM, and MNSSHP, we did a Villains Party, and we have done the Behind the Seeds tour, and the steamtrain tour (I particularly enjoyed that).

Some people "don't give a Goofy fart' how much they spend at WDW. 'Everything starts with a line & ends with you opening your wallet. ' (thank you Bob Sellinger sp?).

Fun can be had by most income levels. Some just need more ways to separate with their money. I heard a radio DJ recently say 'if you can comfortably light a match to a $100 bill, your ready for a Disney trip.'

My wife and I, are planning a trip this September. We are only going for a long weekend. We found that buying tickets to DAH ($119 pp) and MNSSHP ($79 pp) along with a single day value ticket for Animal Kingdom ($102 pp), was actually cheaper than a 3 Day 1 Park ticket ($305 pp). So we are very excited to try these events for the first time.

This is me, with all I spend on extras, I could easily cover the cost of a CL upgrade, but I have no interest. Value for everyone is different.

We are doing our first ticketed events. HEA dessert party and MVMCP. My 12 year old daughter is likes to have an unobstructed view of everything. I'm hoping the dessert party will work. Plus I hate being squeezed into a crowd and can get claustrophobic so waiting in the sea of people won't work for me. And we are Christmas freaks so I'm very much looking forward to MVMCP.

They need ways to increase revenues without huge ticket prices. Add-ons certainly help with that and certain customers will want to buy them. Having never been I'd like to see a lot of these but realistically, we can't afford that. We'll do the Halloween event and one of the AK tours. Otherwise, just parks for us as everything is new.
