Interesting conversation with Event Services

I'm going to this event knowing that this will be the largest amount of pintraders ever assembled in one park.

Now there is the real reason I'm going.... I can't wait... Think of all the older pins that are going to be there.

I too will be disappointed if I make the trip down there and don't end up with the LE pins that I want due to the luck of the draw. I was planning on getting no sleep for four days if need be to get the pins - Shawn and I didn't even bother to get a room the night before the event thinking we wouldn't need it anyway :) Guess we need to find one now.

That being said, I figure there are two of us so that increases our chances a little bit. And I am hoping that since there are so many of our fellow DISers down there too I will be able to trade to get the ones I don't get a chance to buy. And realistically I won't want them all anyway :) Its not what we planned on, but it will still be fun - I finally get to put a face to a lot of people on this board, I get a vacation away from work and I get to trade pins and more pins.....that's not all bad!

Some people complain han the LE is to big others complain when it is too small. What fun would the collecting be if everything just fell into you r lap. I myself lucked out and got the tickets to get my Pooh pin.......I am thrilled, but if I didn't......I would still be going. I can't wait to get there and meet all the people I have gotten to know on the baords. If I get some pins i am looking for........well that is a plus. WDW here I come............yahoo. Be happy, don't worry!
Barbara

Ya know what else is going to be great.... I get to meet Barbara... And thank her for being who she is... Hey Barbara you like Cheese Soup???

I just wanted to emphasize the fact that my comment about preferring lines to lotteries does not in ANY way diminish my excitement over the coming event. In looking at my VISA bill after the May event, it will probably be a blessing if I DON't make any lists. lol. And like Nat, the joy of seeing friends, looking at pins, and talking about pins with people who do not think I should be committed will be wonderful!

Jim and his group have all done so much to make this hobby a true joy; I hope they ARE reading the boards and know how much they are appreciated.

Well - I'm thrilled that they're going to a lottery system! Getting up at 3:00 am was not my or Mike's idea of the best way to spend our time. (He was willing to do it, but he wasn't happy about it.)

Limited Editions has always been a touchey subject with Disney. They want to make everyone happy. Well, some of us are happiest having a pin that not very many others have. Some of us are happy getting every pin we want regardless of the edition size. [and it's not just pins - take a look at how the DAC has changed through the years - lots of limited editions, no limited editions, some limited editions - and not everyone was (or is) happy at the same time B-))

I'm looking forward to a wonderful time at the event. The highlight, for me, will be the pin meet at the Contempory. We're going to the breakfast, getting 4 great trading pins and most importantly getting to meet in person people we're only met through the boards. I hope we get some of the lottery pins, I also hope to get some of the ones I really want, but I know that I'll eventially (in a week, a month or a year or two) get all the pins I want. Remember - Disney pins have been around a long time, and will still be here when the craze is over. And well be here (I hope) still having fun and enjoying the hobby.

Now - - I'm still missing 2 of the filmstrip pins - Plane Crazy and I can't remember the name of the other. Does anyone have a complete list they can send me? And I also need a My First Pooh. Also - a few others.

Well, I'm having trouble figuring out what I want to say. . . Now that's a first for me!

Most importantly, I want to agree with Nat and Barbara's general sentiment: We are going to meet the largest assembly of pin collectors.

Of course the subset of that is we also get to meet lots of DIS members -- another big plus.:)

I don't know that I'm fond of lines or lotteries. So I'd rather vote for what's behind door #3!:jester:

I didn't try to buy the package because we won't arrive in WDW until sometime in the afternoon or evening of August 9th. I certainly would have liked to be there right from the start, but we could only get away from our jobs and find enough child care coverage to be away for a certain amount of time.

I would not like to think that our abbreviated trip eliminated us from the opportunity to purchase any of the special pins. Many people here are in similar circumstances. I hope whatever the final plan is, it provides pin purchase opportunities for everyone -- even people who could only come for one day of the event.

I am joining the consensus. I would love to get them all but I know I won't and then the hunt is on. That is what I am looking forward too.

I have met so many people and had so much fun through trading and just learning what pins are what I can't express it. I can't wait to meet everyone there. I am looking forward to getting up at 2am if I have to, trading for what I don't manage to get and generally just laughing and having fun.

Either way - lottery or Dracula rising I am soo looking forward to meeting each and every DISer. And of course tasting my first Cheese soup!!

Just wanted to add my experience on the Disney Lottery system. I got very lucky at last year's Disneyana (knock on wood) but was not so lucky at the Villains Event at DL in October. However, there was a runner's up sort of Lottery. After everything had been picked up, there was a Last Chance type of Lottery that you could enter to get something you didn't get (or get more of what you already got). I heard from Event Services way after the event. I had totally written it off but I have a beautiful Eric Robison litho of the Divas hanging in my house now!

Ok, I'm so excited right now-- it looks like Rick and I ( read that as NO kids!!) will be able to come down the 10th-12th.
Now I know there is Jeff and Lauri's meet -- meeting everyone there is the MAIN reason we are coming... and I've been reading there is a meet at the All stars too-- we're staying at the AS Sports........
but what is all this OTHER stuff??? Do you mean there is actually an event going on at DIsney too??? I thought it was just a cool place for all of us to meet! LOL

Ok, well, I hope everyone gets all they are hoping for-- We're not getting in until 9pm Friday night-- so I don't think I'm gonna worry about lines or lotterys-- just gonna focus on my friends! :bounce:

:bounce: I'm going to Jeff and Lauri's meet!!! :bounce:

I am happy that they will be having some sort of lottery, especially with "registered" people automatically entered. I spent 107 minutes with a two-line phone with very fast redial (about 10 or 11 calls per minute) plus a cell phone until I was able to get through. Knowing the people who work the special events registration, they will probably include in their mailing to us what the rules will be, etc.

Over the last several years they have been getting their acts together at Special Events Registration. JudySue and I have been to all the Disneyana Conventions as well as some of the others (WDAC, Goebel). I would have to disagree with Megashark, the lotterys do NOW seem to be working properly. We have always been able to buy the lottery items we wanted, even once when we were looking for a one-of-a-kind.

One nice thing about using the lottery, I will not have to bring down an air mattress and be prepared to sleep outside the car. JudySue will be very happy about this, I did not tell her that since my surgery SHE would have to be the one to inflate it.:p

<center> :bounce: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :bounce: I'm just delighted to be going to this event...

However Disney's <b><u>"Pin Powers That Be"</b></u> decide to
handle the matter, I have already begun having fun just with the excitement and anticipation of going!

I mean, what can be better than meeting, for real, so many terrific board members (yup, S38 and J59, right at the top of that list!!!) whose words I've chuckled at, learned from and even cried over during the past year?

And, the utter delight of sharing the MAGIC with my DS and our very favorite <font color=red>Strawberry<font color=black> (she's really not "Mad" - just a tad "pinsane") as she experiences WDW for the very first time!

Renewing existing friendships (including a very special one who is not really<b> MEAN</b> at all, LOL!), seeing special pals from the home territory in IL...as well as a couple, one CM in particular, who are so important to my DS as well as myself...

Guess I'm trying to say that the meets and trading and whichever new pins might come our way suddenly seem more like the peanuts, maraschino and whipping cream on top instead of the truly yummy sundae itself!:bounce: :sunny: :earseek: :jester: :bounce: :earseek: :sunny:

Here's to a great event with the world's largest group of PINHEADS ever assembled in one location...hey, anyone put in a call to Guinness, yet?;)

Well hear it goes for what it is worth. Disney will make a decision.
The decision weather good or bad we have to live with it.
Personally I thing the lottery is a GREAT IDEA. For this reason.

Two year old babies will not be getting a LE pin so their parents can put it on e-bay.

It controls the sharks from getting 10 to 20 of these pins.

Someone once said to me. The kicker is when the person comes by to give you your wrist band they tell them not to wake the baby up in the back seat. WHICH HAPPENS TO BE A BLOW DOLL.

I do not want to see bunches of these pins on E-bay.
Amen

Wow.. my thank you to Eeyore64, Fantasmickey, JudySue and everyone else for that shot of encouragement as Jeff and I work hard at planning this meet (It's NOT easy to work on a meet this size!!) We've spent many late nights planning, changing, and planning again and this definately makes it worth it. Be sure to check out the website that Jeff has created especially for the meet Pin Adventure Website We will keep you up to date here as we add activities to the schedule.. (you didn't think we were done did you? ;) )

Looks like August has turned from a pin event to a family reunion of sorts, where this big happy DIS family is finally getting the chance to get together!

I know I can't wait!!!

I am a NEWBIE.....I was looking forward to the pre event no sleep in line with Dis friends thingy.....but hey my biggest reason for going is all of YOU....I cant wait to meet ya.....also if we dont get what we want we have the big Saturday meet to trade each for the ones we missed......more reason to mix and mingle.....lets think positive....

I hope they still do a map, pin search thing....I really wanted to do that.

Robyn,,,,,I am sad to miss the experience of spending sleepless hours with you and the DH in your car in the wee hours of the morning.......it would have been grand.

But think gang, we can all sleep, my DH and DS can come along with me and get to enjoy the search for the map (hopefully) pins... more to trade with you guys and gals....

YIPPEEEEE!! WDW and DIS FRIENDS all in one place what could be better......hmmmm maybe cheese soup:smooth:
