Interesting comments from Iger...

As I said on a few threads before, I just don't get the idea of choosing today what attraction you'll ride and what you'll eat in 7 months.

This is the part that will catch the majority of guests off-guard. The compulsive, meticulous planners will make the better choices and have a more controlled and "magical" experience. The non-planners will have the illusion of choice which is why EVERYTHING will have a FP+ option. So Joe No Clue will feel like he's getting something after the real choices are long gone. It's the same as people not bothering to know the current system and how to use it to their advantage.

It's the old question, "Do I really need to plan where to eat and where to be in advance"?

No, you don't NEED to but you will not have the same experience as those that do. You don't need to pack warm clothes on your trip to Alaska, but you will be more comfortable and have a much better time if you do.

You are totally right!

I must add that we've been to the World a few times already so we don't feel like we have to do and see everything. Maybe that's why we're not into planning everything in advance.

For someone who averages one post a year, I have to say that this one was pretty good. :thumbsup2

No! :sad2:

We'll be there from October 22 until the 31st and I do not want the new system to be rolled out in time for our arrival. I'm disgusted over it all, the lack of proper information, the fact that we're AP holders but still have no idea what MM+ entails for us, even more so since we'll be staying off site on this vacation.

Are my daughter and I even going to be extended an invitation to book FP+ or order a silly MB? Or, because we're off site, will we need to line up every morning like cattle at a kiosk to maybe get a FP for a "didn't need FP before" attraction, for the park we happen to be in?

Someone should tell Iger that 80,000 testers is peanuts compared to the hundreds of thousands of people who spend a single day throughout the entire resort. All that I've been reading and hearing (here, on blogs, via friends/family who were in test groups) on the new system is that it's not ready to be presented to the general public. That won't stop Iger though.

Maybe I'd be more excited if more information, correct information, was readily available. If the entire system was laid out in detail. Then, at least, I would know what the entire switcharoo encompasses. I've been keeping all of my crossables crossed that MM+ wouldn't be rolled out for our October trip; I'll continue crossing in hopes that the regular old FP kiosks will still be working and that I like what I see, because if I don't those AP won't be renewed.

I have been reading here and there about Magic Bands and I am not sure if I am understanding correctly.

Do you only get to pick 3 Fast Passes a day with the band at whatever park you may be at? So any other rides I ride after I use my 3 Fast Pass Times, I have to use standby lines rest of the day there?

Plus, if I were to park hop to another park, am I am out of luck and will have to do standby for all rides there as well with no option of FPs?

That is my big concern. Why are they limiting everyone to only 3 FPs with this band?

I don't get it.

Can someone explain please ? :goodvibes

I believe Iger said "early next year", not fiscal year. No way is it rolling out in October.

I'd probably check this thread out.

The test groups so far have been incredibly small. The one in June was reported to be around 3000 in TOTAL. August is obviously going to be a larger number of people in the test, with the number or resorts that are being used, and quite honestly, you can see that in the number of Disboarders who are reporting 'being tested' in August.

Now, the number that Iger quotes, 80,000 intrigues me. He does not qualify it by saying, per day, per week, per month, nothing like that. Hmmm. 80,000 per day? Is it an average between the 4 parks? Who knows? Logically speaking, he cant mean per year, or even per month, because of the current numbers of people who used the old fp system exceeds that. So, what pray tell, is the 80,000? My educated guess is he goofed up, and let out a stat that tells us far more then what AdmiralBoomer would have one beleive.

His conservative estimate is, right now, 80,000 per day. That is FAR MORE, I would hazzard a guess, then what is currently using the fp system. Even spread out over 4 parks.

And, IMHO, 'beta testing' will just continue to roll on. In september, even more hotels will be added to the grid, by the end of October, any on site resort guest will have the 'opportunity' to test. They are going to call it a 'test' probably for another 6 months, so people cant get upset if there are MAJOR technological glitches, if they have OPTED IN for the test. Very wise Mickey. 60 days in advance wont come into play for a while, because they have to 'manage' the opportunity of fp+ as more players come online. So, its going to be 'shorter notice' on the selection of fp+ for the oncoming testers, IYKWIM.

My other guess on this 80,000 stat: its regarding onsite guests. Door is wide open when off site guests go on the grid. (que song from trump show 'money, money, money.... MONEY')

But, it still is going to be a slow roll out. Even is by the end of October, everyone on site who wishes to participate can, the number may be relatively small. HOw many people will choose to do so, without a massive advertizing campaign? Also, it appears they have work still to do with DVC and even perhaps AP's, and not sure when that will all come into play. DVC has got to be a significant number and player. On the other hand, people love new stuff, and love to be 'chosen'. So perhaps by making this an 'opportunity' to be 'chosen' to 'test' something 'new' IS an advertizing campaign! Nice. I like it.

Interesting times. Thanks for the article OP

EDITED TO ADD:
1. THE 80,000 MAY NOT SOUND LIKE A LOT PER DAY, IF YOU CONSIDER THE NUMBER OF FP'S AVAIALBLE IN THE OLD SYTEM, AND HOW THEY WOULD BE GONE SO SOON FOR THE HEADLINERS. BUT YOU MUST REMEMBER, IGER IS NOT SAYING 80,000 FP+ PER DAY, BUT 80,000 DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE CUSTOMERS USING THE SYSTEM. THINK ABOUT THAT. RIGHT NOW, ITS A 'RELATIVE' FEW MAXIMIZING THE SYSTEM. SOON ITS GOING TO BE THE MASSES USING THE SYSTEM THAT HAS INHERENT LIMITATIONS LIKE 3 PER DAY, ONE PER ATTRACTION.....

2. I JUST GOT A LOOK AT THE INVITATION TO BE A TESTER ON THE AUGUST THREAD. LOOKS LIKE DISNEY IS USING THE 'TESTING' AS A TERRIFIC WAY OF ADVERTIZING. GO CHECK IT OUT, I THINK ITS ON PAGE 53 ON THE 'AUGUST TESTERS' THREAD. ~a

Oh no! I do not want to have them there for our upcoming December trip! I am so afraid all of the problems/details/kinks will not be worked out, and the problems will mess up our beautiful Christmas trip! :guilty:

I want the bands for two reasons.

1. My boys will be 15 this next trip. They are old enough to go off on their own and young enough to lose their tickets, room key, ect...

2. We park hop, I would love to already have fast passes for the second park. In the mornings I don't need them. In the evenings it can be hard to get them.

That said, I am worried about them working right and I use more than three fast passes a day. I don't know why three is the magic number?

This is correct. I work at one of the test resorts, and my managers say that if things go well with this August test it will just simply continue and become the real roll-out. I've been hearing extremely positive feedback from guests!

Honestly, what we are hearing about here is but a small percentage of guests at Disney who are testing these things. We are not even getting a large enough sample to even pretend we know how the tests are going in the long run. There was one large system wide issue with the turnstiles, but I bet that was fixed very very quickly.

The problems we hear about are WHY Disney does this testing... why ANY company does tests. You can create a system and play with it in house all you want, but until you have the numbers and people to test it, you can never know all the issues. Game testing is a good example. Players are going to put that code through the wringer, find every little flaw, and do things that the creators would never even THINK about.

OP thanks for posting!

He said guests who have used the features in early tests have reacted positively, though he did not elaborate.

lol define positively, vague statement to point of being obtuse. Since when does Disney not toot their own horn?

The methodology probably did look perfect on paper, but beta testing could prove that the system will never work exactly as intended, resulting in refinements up to and including cutting their losses, putting a spin on it and scrapping the whole idea. I won't even go into how people hack a great game (Call of Duty) within a month of release to get unfair advantage.

I'm not a fan of the concept but as a disney stockholder I certainly don't want to see this fail. if it does, hope there is full disclosure as to the $$$s that were invested in this project and Mr. Iger should be held fully accountable.

I'm kind of excited. We have a trip planned for 10/18-10/26. I guess I'm one of the few people that would like to try it.

Nope we are going the 18th to the 21st I wanna magic band too! It would make my trip so much easier.

No, you don't NEED to but you will not have the same experience as those that do. You don't need to pack warm clothes on your trip to Alaska, but you will be more comfortable and have a much better time if you do.

I strongly disagree, whats magical about doing exactly what you knew you were going to do. I think the people with the more "magical" experience will be the thousands of first timers everyday who had no idea how fp worked before and now will be given a few pre-selected by Disney when they do no planning at all.

Which sounds more magical:

1. "I accomplished our timetable and rode the rides we selected and scheduled."

2. "I showed up with no real plan in mind and got to watch the fireworks from this cool grassy area."

The way I read it, Iger's 80,000 testers refers to total number of MB users from Aug 2 to Aug 30. The four resorts involved have about 5000 rooms total. Figure 2/room avg = 10,000 guest per day in all 4 resorts if 100 percent booked - more like 7000/day. say half accept to be testers = 3500 testers/day.

We will be at POP Aug 13 - Aug 16 and then offsite for another week. I just booked everything just a few days ago. Havn't gotten my tkts delivered yet - but looks like we will be testers. Customized our MBs. just waiting for our tkts from WDTC to be delivered so can link them to mde and choose fp+ selections. If it comes through for us, will be great to be a part of the 3000 or so testers per day. Lets see...

I am optimistic that the finished system will be a good thing, however, I fully expect that when it first goes live to the masses it will be a nightmare. For me, having them go live in the end of this year would be great. We will be there in two weeks, be home by the beginning of September, and won't return at least until next August, which should give them ample time to sort out the worst of the problems :lmao:

just a tidbit of info not sure how truthful but... we were at wl last month as quite a few big wigs in business suits hovered around the front test helping cast members figure out magic bands that were being selectively tested. I chatted with one of the apparent heads of this group and he gave me some info (remember this is what he told me not official lol). He said that they are still working the kinks out and that once that is done guests will be able to get more fast passes once they are on site and that the present limit will be only for booking ahead- you can get more once you are here just not ahead to be fair to everyone. He also said you will not be limited to one park per day for fp once system is fully implemented. He basically said that they are doing this slowly so that the system doesnt crash- in fact he said if wdw goes down it would take dl with it -lol. So if he is to be believed, in the future we will be able to book some fp ahead and then use machines as before based on present rules ( and yes fp machines will still exist he said because there will be day visitors still who do not have the bands).

Nope we are going the 18th to the 21st I wanna magic band too! It would make my trip so much easier.[/QUOTE]
We are going the 16th to the 21st as well and I'm eager to use the bands too! Hoping they will be rolled out by then, or at least available for us to try at POR!

I believe Iger said "early next year", not fiscal year. No way is it rolling out in October.

If Disney does not follow the calendar year for their fiscal year, the first quarter of their 2014 fiscal year starts Oct 2013.

Each company sets their own fiscal year.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. We arrive October 28th...for two weeks. Will we be able to get them for all of our park days if they are rolled out? And, I guess I am not opposed to trying it, but I would like enough notice to be able to pick some good fast passes. I don't want to get stuck choosing passes for rides we don't need them for because they waited until the week before we left to fully announce.
