Interesting comment by DVC

icy-dog...let me just add my concern to those expressed that you may not be utilizing DVC based on some possible misunderstanding of how it works.

Use year has absolutely no bearing on when you can reserve DVC vacations. I apologize for the bold letters, but it seems that you may be avoiding some vacations at times of the year you would like to go.

If you want to go at Christmas time, just pick up the phone and make your reservations during January. You can reserve Christmas using the points you will receive in September....you don't have to have the points in order to reserve against them.

I hope this is clear. We'd all hate to see you missing out on vacations based on any misunderstanding.


And like Dean, I apologize if I'm off base with any indication that you might have some misconceptions about the DVC system.

I have a Sept use year at OKW. We will be arriving Dec 12 for five nights. Had I wanted christmas, I could have gotten it.

Do you maybe mean that you were sold VB points that you planned to use at WDW?

Use year(month) is irrelevent to making reservations. It only comes into place when cancelling.

Okay, okay. Maybe I am having a senior moment or something. I do understand that use year is important when cancelling a reservation but answer this, could I have picked up the phone in Sept.2002 (use year anniversary)and reserved for Christmas,2003, in OKW or BWV( my home resorts), or do I have to wait until January, 2003, as some of you stated( which is 11 months out)? I am sorry if I am frustrating you guys but I am really confused.
Now if any of you want to question me about cruises or the Concierge Collection I know I could do better.
Thanks everbody for your help and concern. I wish I had discovered this board sooner. You are all so knowledgable and so very helpful.

USE YEAR DOESN"T MATTER.

There is ONE and only ONE rule as to when you can reserve. 11 months out for home resort, seven months for others.

Where in that simple rule does it mention use year?

For December 03 reservations, you call in Jan 03.

I think you are making this way to difficult with some wrongly concieved idea about how this works.

January, 11 months ahead.

The points you use for a December 2003 vacation will come out of the points you will receive in Sept 2003, even though you are calling sooner.

If that will be your very next vacation, you will need to decide how to use your Sept 2002's allotment of points before the end of August 2003 (or bank them into the following year).

Hi, icy.
Yes, you would have to wait until January '03 to make x-mas '03 ressies. However, you are at NO disadvantage, as every member must wait until January '03. As Lisa stated, you will be using Sept '03 use year points, even though you don't have them yet. The points must be available for the dates you are using them.

I finally get it! Hooray! I have a PhD in Business but I couldn't figure out point usage. I think my problem was, as richyams said, I had a completly scewed conception of use year. I had it in my mind how it worked and it was fouled up, but I couldn't understand why. I think I was just making this way too complicated and convulted.
Thanks so much for your help and I will make reservations in January for Christmas AND I do understand why. It helps to know that everyone will be in the same boat in January. ( As you got from my other postings I thought I was hoodwinked by my guide and now I feel much better to learn that Randy was a reputable salesman.)

Marylyn....so glad you had this cleared up. It really bothered me to think you felt that you couldn't vacation at the time of year you want!! My gosh...39 more years of frustration!!!
