Interesting article - TLC Extreme Couponing

I'm a bit puzzled...she complains they had a crew member act as a customer showing up to an empty shelf...

Wouldn't perhaps a customer show up at some point anyway to an empty shelf--or was that pretend land that they made it look like the shelf is empty?

I have a number of times showed up to Harris Teeter with empty shelves when I have tried to get something on sale.

That just doesn't bother me.

Exceptions to their stated policies does bother me, though. And outside of whomever was featured donating everything to a soup kitchen--cameras or not, their apology doesn't mean much to me. Why feature yourself on a show where your company allows a customer to break the rules?

DD and I were at Lowes Foods while they were filming TLC Extreme Couponing.

My DD saw them filming. I had NO intention on being filmed, as I didn't have a shower, no makeup, kinda day. Well wouldn't you know it.....we round a corner and bam....man with clipboard getting out signature for being "in the background" and they cannot afford to short whole scene over again. It was interesting because the couponer did not have a long of shopping carts, etc. The TLC guy said that they were there since 9am....this was after 4pm and they were going to ring up order soon and then return next day for interviews and to couponers home.

I am a fan of saving money but its the hoarding that makes me sick. Some weeks we have to choose between milk and toilet paper and my football player has not had a gatorade or such all year.....yet the extreme couponers are hoarding 100s of drinks and shelves of paper products.

I think people overreact about this show big time. Yeah, there are a FEW out there who actually do this but MOST do not. I'm sure for the show's sake, they "up" their stockpiles quite a bit to be even more extreme so that they are chosen. Everyone whining about the show needs to just realize that's what it is, a SHOW! Most people do not shop like that and if they do, then great for them. I'm pretty used to having shelves cleared out before I get an item already. It's been the coupon craze. Maybe that makes me selfish but I'm talking about stores where there's a limit like Walgreens or CVS. You can't purchase more than a certain amount of what's on sale. These items are gone and there's no way that ONE person is there taking them all. It's due to this show and it's popularity. I think it's great that so many people are utilizing coupons and learning the ins and outs but it just means a lot more competition for everyone to have to deal with at the same time. The show is entertaining either way. Anyone who's getting sick over it needs help.

What does an extreme couponer's stock of TP and sports drinks have to do with your situation? Are they clearing the shelves so there aren't any there when you go to make a purchase? I'm missing the connection. :confused3

Curious, did you give them your signature? Without the signature, I imagine they would have blurred out your face in the shot.

I love southern savers. Any couponer that follow the rules and watches that show knows those scenarios are unrealistic.
I have never been a get 40 of something I would never use.
