INTEREST THREAD for Color Swap: DAte change in post 1

I love this swap and since I'm all into the page swaps this year thats the one I'm thinking most about.

I like the pre-defined groups but ones that are all mixed up. I could also do a group of all once color for example blue or green for me since I have so much boy stuff to scrap. LOL

As for toppers I like leaving them blank by my concern is I won't have a matching color to cut out my title. Is that a concern or am I over thinking this? I'm just wondering if you make a title box say 2x8 but I'd be open to other sizes and you left it blank but then I have to cut out something for the top and if I don't have that specific color or pattern paper then I'm not going to match. I haven't had as big an issue with the elements in the past since I usually put them on a base sheet that I can match with but with a whole page I'd want it all to match.

ETA: As for using your stash I'd be good with that as long as the groups were on the small side.

I've never done the element color swaps before because not having a theme was just too tough for me - I couldn't wrap my brain about how to do generic elements. But I've done the pages in the Weird swap, so I might join for pages in this one as well.

I like the idea of mixed color groups so you're getting back a variety of colors.

I like the use your stash idea.

I also like the option of leaving a space for a title, and maybe an extra half a sheet like Susie said, rather than just a blank topper. In my own pages I very rarely use a traditional topper, I'm more likely to cut letters.

I also liked DisneyisTerrific's idea of tonal groups like pastels or brights or neutrals. I think that would be very useful.

For both pages and elements, I'd like the groups to be single color as well as mixed with set colors listed prior to sign-up. I like DisneyRider's idea of a color combo group.

On elements, I like the mat & box + 1 idea. I prefer embellishing 2 ways, but I know many don't. I'll go along with whatever!!:)

On the pages, I like there being a topper, but I don't necessarily like it always being 2x8. I think letting the swapper design the topper (leaving it blank) to fit the page is my preference.

I also like the idea of a using your stash.

I don't know that I'd sign up for the specific line group. I'd have to think on that one and see what the choices were before deciding.

Just a thought, but for groups, what about having some groups of colors that fit a theme? Like maybe a spring group where the color choices are all pastels, or an outdoorsy group with browns and greens, or a happy group with all bright bold colors, or an autumn group where the colors are browns, burnt orange, gold, etc. But they wouldn't be made specifically (like with the word Spring on it) for that theme, just with those colors. Just an idea that popped in my head!

Great ideas!

I think it is a vaild concern. You could print out a title or maybe use rub-ons if you can't match it.

I've used rubber stamps and thickers or even a contrasting colour for the topper, I've even used some of them as journal boxes...I'm open to different sizes too.

I am up for this one....but I will need an angel to sing me up ....I guess being at WDW for sign up does cause a problem - but then again maybe not.

I really the idea of using a product line or one set color. Does make things a little bit easier.

Mat and box plus one for me too:goodvibes

I had an idea on the "line" idea - why not have a few groups with with one place for a nominates line (like one for BG, one K&Co etc.) or else a group for BG and you nominate which range - Sultry, Boxer etc. Then pieces wouldn't have to match but would co-ordinate (you see how I pick these ideas for stretching supplies:goodvibes ) This would also be a great way of using up those "bargain" collection packs I always fall for:rolleyes1 You know - good brand but when you get them you're not sure how to work with your pics/style. What do you think?

I think my brain is fuzzy today -- can you set up a mock group for me?

Summary for elements,

I've had 6 positive responses for mat and box + 1 element -- looks like it is going this way, unless I start to hear otherwise.

Groups -- both solid groups and mixed pre-set groups. There has been interest in the color combo and tonal groups, so I'll make sure to include those.

I need feedback on embellishing. If we go with 2 way: Specialty paper -- flocked, glittered, bling, metallic, embossed all counts as one way -- any kind I've forgotten here? Adding an extra layer will count as one way. Anything else that you think should count that hasn't been mentioned?

For one way embellishing, I don't think I would count those things, but please present your position on this. Here is my reasoning -- a mat with 3 layers of value paper and nothing else would be acceptable under this set up. I am not knocking value paper -- I use it frequently. Do we want this swap to be this simplistic?

THrowing out one more question -- for elements, group size 4,5,6,8?

ANYONE KNOW HOW TO ADD A POLL?

PAGES SUMMARY

Group size 4

Groups -- preset mixed and solid color and use your stash

Preset groups will include DisneyIsTerrific's idea of tonal groups. Feel free to be very specific in posting your ideas for these preset groups.

Summary on the topper

Definitely any topper must be blank

How about this as the guideline:
Pages must have either a "topper" of whatever size works for your page (10 x2, 8x2, 6x3, 4x4 -- whatever works) OR a blank space where the title can later be added by the swapper AND ???? piece of co-ordinating cardstock or paper must be included for each swapper.

How does this sound? Please offer suggestions on how to change this. How much paper to include? 6x12, 4x12?

Embellishing - I prefer 2 way, but I'm fine with only 1 way embellishing. I agree that if it's 1-way embellishing that the embellishing needs to be more than just adding another layer of paper regardless of what type of paper it is.

THrowing out one more question -- for elements, group size 4,5,6,8? I really like small groups, so my choice would be groups of 4, but I'm happy with up to groups of 6. I'm not sure I want to do groups of 8

ANYONE KNOW HOW TO ADD A POLL? Nope, sorry!

My comments are in red above.

I like all that you've listed above. Would the size of the groups be 4?

My suggestions for tonal groups would be:

Fall/Autumn: Gold, Burnt Orange, Brown, Combination of these colors
Outdoors: tan/brown/green (not bright, but like olive green), combination of these colors
Brights: blue, red, yellow, green

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll think more and come back later.

I would love to do this swap this year. I would only be interested in the elements. I think it would be good to have photomat, journal box, and one element - but other than a title / topper, what are some elements that could be made general enough for a color swap?

I like the idea of color combos, tonal groups, and solid colors. For all of those, can we use prints that have those colors - or does it have to be solid colors? Also, if we sign up for a group, say purple, if I use papers that are lilac or lavender, is that okay? Or does it have to be a purple? Same as for a red group, would pink, mauve, and magenta work too or no?

I'll post on the poll a group preference - but would love to do just 4 to do a group. But am okay with up to 6.

For the embellishing, because these are general pieces, I think 2-way would be good. But maybe not include inking as an form embellishing because all the pieces would be inked. :rotfl2: Can you limit like that? :confused3 But I do think that special paper that is flocked, embossed, glittered, bling, etc should be considered a form of embellishing.

Thanks!

I thought this too before I joined one. Not too bad once you get started. I remember making squares for brown that were two shades of brown, eyelets in 4 corners and twine making an X through them. File folders, slide mounts, library pockets would be easy. Paper piecings are harded because of no theme. I'll havve to see if we have good photos from the last swap.

Yes, you can use patterned papers -- just stay away from themed papers -- like bats or Christmas treesAlso, if we sign up for a group, say purple, if I use papers that are lilac or lavender, is that okay? Yes! I think I had a black groups once - -I had to add another color, so I added white & grayOr does it have to be a purple? Same as for a red group, would pink, mauve, and magenta work too or no?

Here's my idea for a group by manufacturer:

Basic Grey
1. Boxer - Tinkerbean
2. Sultry - MazdaUK
3. Archaic - AlexWyatMommy
4. Cupcake - 123SA
5.
6.

So you choose your line from the manufacturer, OR

Manufacturer group

1. DCWV (line) SusieStone
2. Basic Grey (Granola) MazdaUK
3. Rusty Pickle (TBA) 123SA
4. K&Co (TBA) DisneyisTerrific
5.
6.

So you choose manufacturer and line

On toppers, I like them as it gives me somewhere to put my sticky letters:thumbsup2 but I've also used them to mount very long thin photos:rotfl: I love inking - not just because its very theraputic but I like the finish. But if people don't like it then you can rule its not an embellishment if you like.
