I was just on intercot's website and according to their rehab schedule Pirates will be down from March 1st through July 1st. Sorry if this is old news but I hadn't heard anything lately about it. Does anyone know if they are going to do the rumored major rehab where they put Johnny Depp's character in the ride? It would be a shame if they changed anything. I have been going to WDW ever since I was 5 and this is one of the classics.

just subscribing as I would like to know also. Our trip in the last of August and there would be five terribly disappointed vacationers if it were closed when we are there!!! The last I heard, (and cannot remember where) it would be closed through September sometime. Anybody????

That sure seems last minute! Usually rehabs are announced a little more in advance than just one month.

I'll be super-bummed if my seven year old doesn't get to ride it. This will be her first trip.

The second installment of POC: Dead Man's Chest comes out July 4th weekend so I could see Disney trying to rush a rehab if they were going to add elements from the movie.

I had heard awhile back that WDW was going to do the same rehab as DL, but that they had decided not to. I sure hope what I heard then is true. :sad2:

Our family will be there in early March and I will have one bummed Husband if this is the case...Yo-Ho-Yo-Ho A Pirate's Life for Me.. pirate: :sad2:

I would be bummed for you and for your DD! That was the first ride I EVER went on in WDW as a child!!!!

I will be bummed if they change ANYTHING about that ride (unless they're just updating the paint and other things we won't really notice)...Don't get me wrong, love Johnny and the POTC movie, but that ride has ALWAYS been my favorite, partly because of its classic elements.

Please tell me this is a cruel hoax??? Please! :guilty:

We'll be there beginning March 26th and this is my absolute fav!

I just looked at the list for rehabs for the MK for 2006 and didn't see anything about Pirates.

If they are considering changing or updating the attraction, I really wish they wouldn't! I love it just the way it is! pirate:

That one says May. I hope it's right. This is my DS's first time, and I would love for him to be able to see it!

I Heard That Wdw Was Going To Reopen The Ride Shortly For The Easter Holiday.............is That Part True? I'm Going 4/19-4/23 And Hope To Get On It If That Is The Case.

We will be there May 31 - June 11. We will be dissapointed if it is closed. The really bad part is that we got some friends to go with us this trip, and it is their first time there. I can't imagine a first trip to WDW with no POC. It really would be a shame. :sad2: If it is true, WDW did not think it out very clearly. If you HAVE to rehab a major ride, it should be done in the offseason, not during the summer. That really makes no sense at all. :rolleyes2

Why don't you check the calendar section of the WDW website, under operational updates? The only thing listed in the Magic Kingdom for refurbishment in March is the Liberty Square Riverboat.

I've heard this rumor many times too. We're going March 6-11th. We didn't ride it last time b/c we were afraid it'd scare DD. I was/am super excited to ride it this time since my parents will be with us. Hopefully I'll get too. Does every single thing at WDW have to be tied to a movie? Geez, just leave some stuff alone!

Oh man, I hope if they rehab it, that it is open by June. my boys will be pretty disappointed if they don't get to ride it.

I didn't hear anything about it. I am registered with the wdw website and they send me messages about rehabs. I have not heard anything about POC.

When Disney released POC movie several years ago, not too long after, they made the decision to make two more sequels. I would think that since Disney knew when they'd release the first sequel, they'd have done the rehab during the off-season if they planned to do any rehab at all.

I've checked every site I belong to and nothing says that POTC will be going under rehab in March. I did see a reference to the OP's comments on Intercot, but I didn't see any dates.

I got this from WDW Magic.......

"Pirates of the Caribbean is set for some rehab work early this year. Whilst still not confirmed, it currently looks like Pirates will go down in March for some essential maintenance, will reopen for the busy Easter period in April, and will then close for some show rehab work in May and June. There is no information yet on what the show rehab will include, but there is the potential for some movie related items to be installed."

"It has today been confirmed internally at Disney that Pirates of the Caribbean at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland will undergo the much rumored show enhancements. Top of the list are the additions of elements from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, including Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa audio-animatronics. There will also be new special effects, and some new operational enhancements. The timeframe has not been confirmed......."
