Hello..

Just curious with the dollar getting so close to par...could a person just use their bank card and make interac purchases like we do here? If so, does anyone know what the fee would be? I tried looking on Scotia Banks website but didn't have any luck with the fees. Also in the parks do they take interac?

I'm not fond of carrying a lot of cash on me and we are a "cash only/no credit card" family so that's not an option.

Thank you in advance!
Kim :)

In my experience, which is somewhat limited...

I have tried to use my Scotiabank debit interac card in Bangor on several occassions and they never seem to have the option on the POS systems (Target, Wal-mart, etc.) Visa and cash, no problem at all.

I don't believe I tried to use my interac card in Florida during the last two trips because of the previous Bangor experiences.

Hope that helps.

You can use it in limited places..but there is a fee. Can't recall how much?

With Scotiabank, you will not incur any Interac/out of network surcharges when you use Bank of America ATM's to withdraw funds.

For debit purchases, you can use your Scotiacard wherever you see the "NYCE" logo
http://www.scotiabank.com/cda/content/0,1608,CID8186_LIDen,00.html

There is a surcharge applied to these purchases (both a debit fee of $1, plus foreign currency surcharge -- usually 2.5%)

Unfortunately, the USA is as not as advanced as Canada in that we have one primary provider of debit services (Interac), while the USA has many, and they do not all interconnect.

Also in the parks do they take interac?

Unfortunately, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. does not accept Direct Debit transactions, including Interac, as a form of payments at any of our United States-based Theme Parks or Resorts.

The only "debit" cards accepted are those issued in conjunction with and displaying the logo of one of the following major Credit Card Companies, and which are equipped with a magnetic strip:
  • VISA
  • MasterCard
  • Discover
  • American Express
  • Japan Credit Bureau (JCB)

I have never been able to use my "Libro Credit Union" debit card anywhere in the U.S.

Use your Scotia card at a Bank of America ATM and you will not be charged any fees. I do it all the time when I visit my sister in Texas.

VISA or PLUS System
(Withdrawal from chequing or savings account at another bank's ABM within the U.S.) $3.00
(account debit fee also applies if not included in your monthly account fee)

Just as a point of interest ,if you happen to be in Bangor again you can withdraw funds from the TD North "Green Machines" as well with no service charge.

But that would be if you bank with TD here right? Just as I can withdraw from RBC Centura in Florida with zero fees?

Thank you...this sounds like what I'll do. I'm taking some cash with me but I don't want to carry too much.

Thanks!
