Ok, odd title, I know, but who here has places they like to walk/hike extra when in the World? Everyone sees the joggers at the hotels, but are there specific places you seek out to walk that you really enjoy? Are there any places you've found to walk that are relatively peaceful?

For example, I do enjoy the stroll around Hourglass lake (when staying at POP) really early in the morning. I was pleasantly surprised when they finished the whole sidewalk. The path between POR and FQ is also fantastic. Are there other intentional walking paths at different resorts?

How have you all found the trails at AK recently? Are they extremely crowded? I've not been back there in years.

There is a path that connects wilderness lodge with fort wilderness. I haven't personally walked it but I have seen pictures! Many people spot wildlife along the way. It seems like it would be very peaceful to explore.

The path between Epcot and Hollywood Studios is a very pleasant walk.

We usually walk no less than 10 miles a day while at WDW so we don't usually seek out extra paths. If the weather is extra pleasant we will walk rather than take the boat on the path mentioned above, also from Epcot Gateway to the hotels there.

I figured there had to be some paths there, it sounds lovely!

Yes, this is a very good walk, and usually one can easily beat the boat from one park to another. I'm also surprised how few people walk to HS from the hotels.

Just noticed your other question!! :)
We just walked the trails first part of Dec. They were moderately crowded. Would depend on time of day/year/weather how crowded they are. Dh loves them, not my favorite!! :goodvibes

I find 'extra walking' is a great way to appreciate the atmosphere a little more at WDW.

I LOVE and highly recommend the trails at AK. I would say overall they can get crowded, but are usually very manageable.

If you take your time they are quite enjoyable. From my experience with those trails, the crowds usually come from large groups who move along quickly. Also, I find most people don't take the time to enjoy them, and that if you stake out a good spot you can really take notice of animals others might miss! As an example, one year we saw an okapi in the brush many were walking past.

LOL, that's mostly my Dh's take!! I like animals (no reptiles, bats) but in general, not a 'zoo' person. I do go on those walks with him though.
IMO, guess I really don't consider them 'walks' as it's mostly a very slow stroll!! :snail:

When I first went to AK, it was the first year the park was open and they were slammed every day, so even moderately crowded would be better! I do think I'd have to be in the right mood to "put up with" all the extra people on the trail. lol

I absolutely do as well!

Thanks for the reply! It sounds like I need to give them another chance. I do love animals, but not so much being in a big crowd. lol

I absolutely adore staying at the Contemporary because there is nothing like that early morning walk to Magic Kingdom :)

That's one walk I've not gotten to take yet! I hope to some day, I really do love the freedom of being able to actually walk to a park. That reminds me of the walk along the beach we took from Poly to GF, another good one, and I don't think we passed many people at all...
