A few weeks ago our corporate headquarters informed us that one of our employees on another contract lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. So they (corp hq) asked for donations. Well, we get our company newsletter yesterday and it turns out that it wasn't our employee, it was her sister that lost everything. The donations were given to the employee to pass along to her sister. And yes, corp hq knew all along that it was not the employee but her sister. Would you feel mislead? A lot of the people in our office feel that way, justifiably, in my opinion. What do you think?

I would. You may have been just as generous to the sister, but you should have known.

I would feel mislead I mean to blatantly lie like that is terrible. I am sure everyone would have still been happy to help out knowing the truth.

Nope you weren't mislead, you were lied to. I would talk to someone in your HR department. Something like this makes it difficult to support the company and its choices in the future.

That's just wrong. I'm sure if they had been honest, everyone would still have pitched in and helped. It should be addressed.

I'd let them know how it made you feel! They intentionally lied to you and that's awful. It's not that the sister didn't deserve to be helped, but you should know exactly where your contributions are going.

Sounds like you were lied to. I'd be very annoyed. Unfortunately, I'd also think twice about donating in the future--at least until I'd checked out the story for myself.

I definitely would feel misled. If the tables were turned and you did something of a similar nature it would most likely be grounds for dismissal. They defrauded people out of money and that's a crime.
