Does everyone get vacation insurance for their trip? This will be our first trip and I was wondering if it was needed.

we never get trip insurance - i guess that is just a risk that i was always willing to take. i know that some people get insurance when they think that the weather may be really bad in orlando (during hurricane season) and they may have to cancel their trips

Well hopefully insurance is never NEEDED but it depends on your situation. Of course coming in hurricane season, having small children that may get sick or injured, or purchasing retail airfare increase the chances of needing insurance. Id say if your vacation is over $2000 its a good idea to get the $133 of vacation insurance. Remember it also covers personal property and it is door to door coverage. If you drop your digital camera in Bay Lake insurance will buy you a new one

I faxed my AAA agent Sunday morning from the Poly. Tropical Storm Fay was headed our way. I had insurance, but had never cared to find out how it worked.

He said that I shouldn't book anything until our flight was cancelled, either by Jetblue or by the closure of the airport At that point, my trip insurance would cover my added expenses. If my flight did get cancelled, I could either book a new flight on my own (which would mean a day on the phone I'm sure) or get him to do it.

I might mention that Fay wasn't on the radar when we left NY on the 13th.

Fortunately for us, we got out before the storm really hit (and had an empty day at the MK on Tuesday.) But I will ALWAYS have trip insurance and I will ALWAYS book through a travel agent. That $100 or so investment could have saved our trip.

I always buy insurance for my trip. I buy all my policies through InsureMyTrip.com
They are much less expensive than the Disney insurance & the people there are very helpful :flower3:

Disney uses Travel Guard backed by AIG. Its $66.95 only the adults pay. And it is door to door so it covers your flights even if not booked by disney

We get trip insurance each year more because of having eldery parents with health issues than the weather. Since we go in September, hurricanes are a concern, and we have luckily dodged more than a few of them.

What about flights that were "paid for" with frequent flyer miles?
Also, what is the cutoff date to buy? We are arriving on Sept. 7 and may have missed out window of opportunity.
The real question is whether our weekend planned out by the Kennedy Space Center on the 13th will be a go, or will they still be cleaning up from the flooding?
