We are booked with Jetblue flying out of Buffalo-

We have medical trip insurance from Co-operators

When I booked through airtran originally - flight insurance was offered and we bought it- we lost it when we cancelled- no big deal- only $60

However- when I booked with Jetblue - insurance wasn't offered-

Do I need it and can I book it separately?

TIA, Jen

The important thing about insurance, is you are insuring your potential loss, not the whole value of your trip. With JetBlue, you can cancel your flight (and get a credit) for the value of your flight, less $40. So, for a party of 4, if you cancel your loss is $200. We stopped buying cancellation insurance when we realized we were paying $75 - $100, to insure a potential loss of $200. Not good economics for us.

However, if you want loss of baggage insurance, flight delay insurance, etc, (and it isn't offered through your credit card) you can purchase this separately.
