Insurance for hire car

We've just booked for next August and our package comes with the usual free car hire. However, the amount wanted for the insurance seemed very excessive and we said we would make our own arrangements.

I know I have previously read about other people on these boards taking out their own insurance which has been accepted by Dollar but I can't find the relevant threads at the moment.

Can anyone help with companies we could use. I don't want to buy insurance and get out there to find that Dollar won't accept the policy and insist on us taking their insurance or having no car.

We've used them with both Dollar and Alamo with no problems

Alternatively I believe Amex and Nat West offer the same policy at different prices.......

I took advice off here (including alisons!) and got the same policy, used it with Alamo no problems and using it with dollar next week through virgin
Its a great deal and has saved me ££££

Hi, was just reading the above posts and wondered as I am about
to set up the car hire for my first trip to Florida with dollar from
Sanford. I have registered with the dollar express but wonder what sort
of insurance I should book. What will I really need as a first timer ?

Dont believe the rental agents when u get there - they're just trying to scam you into buying more insurance and will do all they can to 'convince' you.

I actually had a big argument with an alamo agent once...

he was trying to convince me that me own insurance was no good. He actually went so far as telling me I was a stupid tourist who didnt know what I was talking about and that he'd seen this all before. He added that I was going crash the car, not be covered and end up in jail.

I told him to **** off and kiss my **** !!!!!
