I know there been alot of discussions about Disney or 3rd party insurance for a cruise.

I also know there a discussions, like gift cards, that can help save money.

My assumption is cruisers are either paying a lump sum or monthly payment via credit card with travel insurance coverage.

My question or maybe I has been mentioned before. 🤔 Has anyone actually was able to get insurance coverage for a cruise paid 100% in a disney Giftcards?

If you book the insurance offered by DCL, it rolls into the amount you pay to DCL and therefore can be paid using gift cards. If you get insurance separately from a 3rd party, they won't accept Disney gift cards.

Haha so that means the dcl insurance can also be slightly discounted by buying with GC also? However more expensive than other coverages (3rd) part.

I suppose. However I don't really consider the coverage offered through DCL to be comparable to coverage obtained separately. But that may depend on what your needs are for the coverage. Make sure you are comparing apples-to-apples and not oranges.

I've just started looking into cruise insurance. Being frugal, I hate to pay for it, but having used it for a canceled Alaska cruise, I know its importance.

Are you allowed to say if there's a company you prefer?

We took the Disney insurance because it is "for any reason". We have a farm with a lot of animals, not covered under any other kind of insurance. If it were just the two of us, we wouldnt take insurance. Such a terrible rip off. Even with ours we only get 75% back as a credit not cash. And the premium is, of course, not covered. It is very expensive. We couldn't find "cancel for any reason" through anyone else. What are you going to do. We cant get Disney gift cards at a discount here in Canada that I'm aware of.

Not a ripoff if you're stranded in the Caribbean and need to be medically evacuated to a US hospital. Just saying.

You are right, of course. Like any insurance, car, home. I just think the premiums are far too high.

Your comment highlights the need for people to do their homework on insurance. What do you need? What, if anything, does your credit card cover if you paid by credit card?*
The person you quoted is Canadian, so what you said is true for them. For U.S. Citizens they would almost certainly be evacuated for free by the U.S. Coast Guard from Caribbean locations.

*I just signed up for Medicare. Medicare does not offer coverage outside the U.S. However, I got a Medicare supplement, and one of the perks it offers is 100% coverage for emergency treatment outside the U.S. including Medical Evacuation. But like I said, you have to do your homework. You want to make sure you buy the coverage you need for a trip, but not buy coverage you already have.

That is not true about Coast Guard evacuations from all Caribbean locations. They have evacuated from cruise ships at least they did until 2021 when they told the cruise ships they would have to use private medivac companies to evacuate from the ship. I'm not sure if this Covid era policy has changed. As far as Medicare Advantage plans you might want to check your policy. I have not heard of one that covers medical evacuation. I do agree that everyone's needs are different so you might want to confer with a person that specializes in this type of insurance. Here is a CDC link about travel insurance.

Not a Medicare Advantage plan. Medicare with a standard Medicare Supplement plan. You are correct, Medicare Advantage plans are different. I am seeing reports on other vlogs since the restart in the Caribbean and all evacuations so far have been U.S. Coast Guard.

I gone ahead and bought 3rd party and paid my cruise via credit card. Too many unknowns right now to risk it. Being stuck on either virgin islands and needing to pay out of pocket due those any emergencies, is not something I want to risk.

*what I read is make sure to read all the fine print. Of course like any coverage, they will try to get out of it based on situations so the wording is the most important. Starting with does the coverage extent outside the US.
