Insurance dilemma....HELP!

Help...I have 1 week to decide on insurance for my 7 day eastern cruise on 4/19. The problem is I have booked myself w/DVC pts and my children with cash. So my very important question is....can I be covered for my point payment by using a company other than TravelGuard...the dvc insurer. The coverage at insuremytrip.com is less expensive and more comprehensive. They also ask for total cost of cruise. How do I figure that out with the point usage? HELP!!!!

I'm not a DVC person but I'll give this a bump for you.

What would you lose monetarily if you had to cancel the DVC points portion of the cruise? If you can figure that out then that is the amount I would insure for that portion of the cost.

Hopefully some DVCers can help!

From what I've read about renting points and the like, I based my point value at $10.00 per point for my insurance. I also used points and cash on my ressie.

If anyone else has better info, that would be very helpful.

According to the Travel Protection Plan I received when I booked with points recently:

Plan 1 - P1
(There are limits and a Penalty period involved)
"The reimbursement amount is calculated bymultiplying the number of Vacation Points for the reservation by $5. The premium is determined by multiplying the reimbursement by 5%.

EXAMPLE: 150 Vacation Points x $5 = $750
$750 x 5% + preimim of $37.50.

There are two other plans for Airline Ticket/Baggage and for Medical. Airline Ticket coverage is $29.00 per person and there are limits/maximums. Medical is $3.55/day/person with limits involved.

Just like auto/homeowners/life insurance, I get everything I can regardless. If I get cancelled/delayed or otherwise inconvenienced, I want to be protected!

I don't know about a NJ DVC'ers club, I just joined the DISboards two weeks ago. Maybe you can post a thread on the boards and see if there is a NJ DVC'ers club.
