I have a quote for 10 days in January, full-size car at Budget for $282.12. This includes all taxes/fees.

But does it include insurance? I can't seem to find out if it does or not? DH and I don't have car insurance because we drive company cars with their insurance, so we would need this option.

Thanks :)

If it includes it, it should be listed seperately in your quote. Might be listed as Collision Damage Waiver (CDW).

It probably does not include insurance. That would be something they would ask you about at the counter. Usually you initial for insurance after they explain the costs. Look at the printout and see if it mentions it.

Before you buy the insurance, check with your credit card company - many credit cards, especially gold and platinum cards, provide insurance if you pay for the rental with your card. That insurance from the rental agencies can get really pricey so don't pay it if you can get coverage some other way.

Credit cards are good to get insurance coverage for damage to the car and possibly loss of use charges from the rental car company -but you need to rely on personal auto insurance for liablility in case you are sued. You need personal health insurance for any substantial coverage for medical costs if you are injured.
If you rely on insurance from the rental car company read the fine print on their internet web sites. It takes multiple sources of insurance to cover all the bases.

Thanks everyone :)!

No, it doesn't mention insurance in the quote, so it must not include it :(.

My credit cards provide supplemental insurance for car rental, but not the acutal automobile insurance. So unfortunately that won't help.

Ugh, this makes renting a car so much more expensive :(.

I am sure your price does not include insurance and it will boost the rate WAY up if you opt for it. Call your insurance company and see what coverages it has for you on rentals. Perhaps between your auto insurance and your credit cards you will have it covered. I would never buy insurance from the rental agency, it is a total ripoff.

I totally agree, it is a rip-off! Unfortunately we have no auto insurance at all so we would be forced to take it. Currently we drive company cars, using their car and their insurance so we have no need for automobile insurance of our own.

Thanks :)

You might check with your homeowners (or even umbrella policy) and see if you can add a rider for rental cars.

If not you better shop the insurance rates as well as the base rates.
