During my procedure this morning, the sedation was definitely "twilight sleep". They briefed me in advance that I would not be unconscious and may be aware of what was happening, may feel some pain. I have no memory at all of the endoscopy part but could definitely feel the colonoscopy, especially when they got a little bit stuck trying to "go around the corners". I it was vaguely uncomfortable but frankly, I just didn't care. I was floating; aware but completely detached. I couldn't tell you if the process took 10 minutes or three hours . For the record, I was hooked up to monitors for my vital signs, supplemental oxygen on nose prongs and the meds were administered by an IV nurse, not an anesthetist.I started to wake up in the middle of my last one. No pain, just uncomfortable. They apparently upped my anesthetic to put me back out.
