Insulin pumps for my 15 year old

OMG I have exactly the same trouble! And when they're on my abdomen, they're usually at the exact height of the doorknob and I occasionally catch on them, too!

I wonder if I'll get the smaller ones automatically or if I'll need a new prescription. I'm seeing my endo next week, so I can ask then.

They'll just start shipping.

my 12 yr old has a Revel with Medtronic. We love it. She got her pump about 6 months after diagnosis at age 7.

I would recommend this pump, but also know she has several friends who have pings. There are some great flexibilities there too.

I would think it would be between those two.

I'm glad it's not just me that is such a klutz. My DH is always laughing when I get snagged on the doorways...it's not like I am sticking out that much more.

I wore one to trial it and I was amazed at how something that small messed up my whole sense of space. I never knew I was walking fractions of an inch away from door frames.

Just wondering, how long after you are diagnosed is the average length of time that the dr might suggest a pump. Are there certain criteria they look for ??

It really varies. Some younger kids go on pumps on day one now, especially the very very youngest kids. usually with older kids and adults it's left up to the adult to decide. If your friend is intereseted he (or she? I'm sorry I can't remember) should start looking at information on the major pump companies and get educated minimed / animas / omnipod / tslim

Many doctors seem to have this arbitrary 6 month rule which often makes no sense. Sometimes your insurance will require a wait, but really it should be a combination of being educated about diabetes, doing all the things necessary for proper care (checking appropriately, taking shots appropriately), knowing what a pump can and can't do, and knowing how to make educated adjustments on your own. It should NEVER have anything to do with "being in good control". It's like saying "ok, you can learn to drive this car and once you get really good at driving, then we'll give you the steering wheel."
