We are say VWL this week and yesterday we came back to our studio and they were installing devices for future WIFI on the rooms. The techs said it would still be a few months before it was up and running.
We saw them doing all the villas on the 4th floor theother day.

Based on Disney IT history, I'm not holding my breath! :rotfl2:

Seriously, this is great. Looking forward to wifi at all the DVC resorts at some point.:thumbsup2

i guess i'm the only one who doesn't actually like wifi as it is less secure than wired...

I agree with you and hope they allow us a choice. I'd prefer to bring my own router, which is password protected.

Make that three of us. I have my router sitting with my camera bag right now. I would hope that they leave the ethernet connections, since they are hooked up already.

Great news! But I, like the three previous posters, hope options are available. We prefer to use our router. It's nice to see progress, though.

Count me in as another that wants to have a wired option. Its good to know there is at least 1 place in the villa with a strong connection.

You can always do what I do when i am only public wifi. I VPN into my home router and use the internet connection at home.

We need to start a new poll:

What is your guess:

(a) the new wireless system will be up and running in four months, will work flawlessly, and the signal will be strong and fast.

(b) the new wireless system will be up and running by no later than end of 2014, will have a poor signal, will break down two days after starting operation and will not be operating properly for the next three years.

(c) the new wireless system will encounter at least one major, unexplainable problem hours into operation in that it will send some signal to your computer, iPhone or other device that melts your hard drive.

(d) the new wireless system will result in a huge increase in suicides at WDW because the only internet page you will be able to get is one with Deevy See trying to sing It's a Small World.

I'm going with B in the poll.

I have no confidence that it will be up and running anytime soon.

I am surprised in how little faith many of you have! :lmao: Seriously, installing WIFI is much easier than cable. The trick is finding good access points. Also, WIFI can be very secure. I work in the industry, and I find WIFI security very safe if the right protocols are in place. I think there are more security vulnerablilites with personal routers, unless you are tech savy. Most just buy them, put them up right out of the box. Let's give Disney IT a chance, how about it? :goodvibes

We're staying at BLT and tech came in and turned on the switch for our wireless router. He even gave us a temporary code to logon to the Disney wireless system. DH did it as the tech stood watching. It seemed to work fine. :thumbsup2 We didn't stay on the Disney system because it wasn't a secure system, yet. And we already had our Apple express up and running. The tech said all of the deluxe resorts and DVC resorts are already set up and ready. The values haven't been added yet. They plan on doing a final test and offering wireless with a couple of weeks. I'm a little unsure as to whether the values will be getting wireless.

The tech said there will actually be three levels of service, fast, faster and fastest or slow, slower and slowest depending on how you look at it. He did not know what speed level the DVC contract would give members. But cash guests would get the slow speed for free.

On Thursday, September 29, I checked into a studio at OKW. We were in building #63. We had free wifi that day - all devices picked it up. Came up as something like "Guest Wireless" or something similar. Worked great. I had called the front desk to confirm it was legit. They connected me to some tech department who did confirm it, but told me not to rely on the connection. Sure enough, we didn't have the wifi again (checked out October 3). I figured it was something in the test phase.
