I've been a long time lurker to the disboards and just spent the last few days reading the WISH threads. I'm so inspired by everyone's stories that I just signed up for the 1/2 Marathon 2008. I just purchased Marathoning for Mortals. I need to lose about 100 pounds but I'm sure some of that will come off as I start walking. I'm so excited, I feel like this will be a life change for me.

Congrats Disneymomct on your new adventure!

I definitely need to continue (so my Dr harps about) losing and DH has set his sights on Marathon Weekend 2008 and he too needs to lose. We keep putting in those steps and for me each race my desire to continue this change of lifestyle cements.

Be sure to check out the weekly training thread they're a bunch of inspiring men and women. Always a CAN DO! spirit abounds with them :cheer2:

As for the weight....yes, it will start coming off. It was somewhat easy for me to lose some weight as I started training last October because I, too, had a lot to lose...and still do. :rolleyes1

The MfM book is a great source for getting started. Be sure to particpate in our weekly threads as well.

So glad to have you on board!
 

Welcome, disneymomct!! Be sure to check out the weekly training thread. Don't let the sheer volume of posts intimidate you. Just jump in and let us know how you are doing, whether you have any questions, etc. The support you will find on the WISH boards is incredible. Looking forward to seeing you around here!
 
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I will be posting on the weekly training thread. I'm starting my first walk tomorrow. At this point it looks like I will be on my own, I have a friend who may sign up. That
is ok though because this is my goal for myself, the company would be nice, but I know I'll meet some of you guys down there so I don't feel too alone.

Welcome. There is a training thread just for walker training also. I'll bump it up for you.

I am glad to see that you have made the choice to get moving and that you will be joining us for the event in January.

I'd love to hear how things are going for you and WISH you all the best as you continue on the journey.

I also got inspired for the 2008 (well, the 1/2 anyway!) and also just started my training. I'm no where close to the cut off time yet (I'm right around a 19-20 minute mile for 3-4 miles), but I figure, as long as I keep going and stay dedicated, I can do it. And you can too!

Don't worry though, I think there's too many WISHers for you to be alone :) Good luck and keep us posted!
