Total...Probably around $6500 or so. We didn't keep good records. We were shooting for $5000, but missed. This was a little over 6 mos ago. My parents paid for almost everything...Dress and tiara were around 600, I paid for my veil, borrowed my crinoline, and already had the shoes I wanted to wear. DH kicked in some for the DJ, paid the minister, and I think I paid for the license stuff. I tried to pay for other stuff here and there, like the cake topper, guest book, ring pillow, etc. We had the ceremony in a church and the reception in their (HUGE) fellowship hall. It was the type of southern wedding that MrsPete is describing...heavy appetizers (definitely enough to fill you up like a meal) and a fruit table (with chocolate fondue) with punch and cake (which we were given as a gift!). No alcohol was served and we had over 300 guests.
DH's parents paid for the (NICE) rehearsal dinner, probably $2500ish. They also gave us a mid-sized amount of money for a wedding gift because they didn't contribute the traditional amount for flowers (we didn't ask them to) and his mom also gave us really nice gifts at all our showers that helped us out a lot (our quilt for our bed, lots of cool pots and pans and stuff).
I'm cheap on wedding stuff. I just couldn't ask my parents to spend a large amount of money. I know they would have done whatever I wanted, but they've done so much for me that I tried my best to keep it as inexpensive as possible without sacrificing the things that were truly important to me (i.e. I had my dream dress, the flowers I wanted, etc.).
DH and I paid for our rings. OH-A hidden cost? The church allowed us to use their table cloths for free, we just had to have them cleaned. Well, previously one of their church members (we didn't use my church, it's too small) had owned a dry cleaner's, so they had cheap cleaning. NOT ANY MORE! My parents took them to their normal place and it was $10 per table cloth-for over 30 of them!! We could have rented for much cheaper.
We paid for our honeymoon. It was probably $1000, but our hotel only cost $126ish since we used VISA reward points!!
