I never really thought about the fact that many people who did not see this when it first came out have probably had no chance to see it. The only English Language VHS of this movie was released in the UK, although it is currently out of print I believe. I was not alive when it came out, but back during the time when Laser Disk Players were all the rage (haha) one of my friend's father was really into Disney and got an imported laser disk copy of this movie, so I have seen it. Just curious to see how many people have never actually seen this movie?

I love it too, although I haven't seen it since I was a child. I remember seeing it at a Drive-in theatre with my family. :):):)

Saw it as a kid back when the WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY came on every Sunday night at 7pm. I used to have the storybook album also. Don't know what's happened to it though. :( Speaking as an African-American, I see nothing politically incorrect with the movie and I wish Disney would re-release it! Let's cross our fingers. :jester:

I know I've seen it several times (probably Wonderful World of Dinsey or Disney Channel). Wish I had a copy of it myself.

I saw it as a kid at a Saturday matinee. I don't remember anything controversial in it, but, then again, I was just a kid.
I would love for my kids to see it.

I have a VHS copy a friend made off of her laserdisc ages ago. It's a nice movie, IMO. DH wants to see it, but his VCR eats tapes it doesn't like (it ate Blackadder!!!), so I don't dare play it. My VCR is still in Florida. Sigh...

A DVD copy would be wonderful!

I have never seen it. I wish I had a copy. I just went on Ebay and they have a whole bunch! But way out of my price range right now.

It was the 2nd movie I saw at the theater. :) I loved, loved, loved it. I received it as a gift and was able to share it with Hunter & Keith. (He'd never seen it) I thought it painted an ugly picture of white people with Africian-Americans the heros in the story! I know it shows slavery and I think someone said that they made them too "happy" in the movie. I'm not sure. I just know when I watched it I was inspired by the African-American history, culture, etc. A lot has been overcome and I would be proud to know that my ancestors were such strong, smart people.
If my post offends someone, sorry. It certainly is not meant to.

My Mom took my younger brother and I to see it at the movies, I think it was around 1970 or so.

Wish I owned a copy of it myself.

It seems like I saw it a long time ago on The Wonderful World of Disney on a Sunday night when I was a little girl. But that was eons ago.

I've seen it and I could swear that is was released in the theaters in the 80's sometime. I could be wrong but I seem to remember taking the girls that I babysat for to see it when I was a teen.

I saw it when I was very little. I remember the tar baby scaring me.

I vaaaguely remember seeing it in theatres when I was little, but I remember almost nothing about it.

Have it, don't like it.

Guess I'm the only one who gets annoyed by the "white folks" in this movie. Most of them are complete idiots. Uncle Remus is the only one who seems to have any sense. His stories, told in animation, are the best part of the film.

The mother is an idiot and the little boy a whiny baby. Why did Uncle Remus put up with them!

I'm positive it was, because I've seen it in theaters, and I was old enough to remember it, so the only time it could have been was sometime in the 80's.

I also remember reading in a Disney film book I have that it was released in theaters sometime in the 80's, but that was the last time it was seen in the US.
