I have a relative who has kept her sons baby teeth after the tooth fairy collected them  My 2 haven't started yet and I just think it's kind of gross. What's the plan, when they leave for college she hands them a box full of memories with a baby jar full of teeth in it :rotfl: Can't imagine the look on those kids faces!!! What do you do with em afterwards??? So I wonder who Keeps or Tosses??

We keep them. Don't know why. I guess because my mother kept mine and my siblings' teeth. I have older DD's in a ziplock bag in the bottom drawer of my jewelry box. DH has other DD's teeth in a ziplock bag in his nightstand drawer. Don't know what we will do with them, but we have them. DS is only 4 (almost 5), but I'm sure we'll keep those too when the time comes.

Oh, my mother still has mine I think. She never gave them back to me, not that I think I want them. Although I'm sure she doesn't know mine from my brother's or sister's.

What a great idea. I have kept DD's teeth. She's 8 so I am sure she will lose more!

A relative gave both of my children a "tooth fairy bank".

Thanks for the link. My DH collects the teeth, just as my dad did. Maybe we'll get the bank for our 4th DD who hasn't begun losing hers yet. We haven't kept track of the dates for the others, but I like that idea. I also like the looks of the "Baby Tooth Finder" on that site. It can be challenging for the TF to find teeth (let alone remember to do so)!

My mom didn't save my teeth but she saved my braces. :rotfl: She thought they cost too much just to throw away. I plan on keeping my children's teeth but not the braces.

I have kept a few of my children's teeth. I am not sure why-I guess I didn't have the heart to throw them away. My DD12 was recently looking for something in my jewelry box and pulled out one of her teeth. She pretended like she thought it was really weird that I had saved them, but I could tell she was secretly pleased!

I have kept my daughter's teeth, but don't know what I would do with them. Our puppy is losing his teeth and I found one this morning. I guess I'll keep his too! :paw:

My first DD6 just lost her first two baby teeth this summer. And yes, I kept them. I am not sure why though. I don't know if I'll continue to do so. :)

My Dh has kept most of the teeth our 5 children have lost. No idea why he would do such a thing. Recently, ds12 had expanders placed in his mouth in preparation for braces. One of the results is a large space between his front teeth. Ds12 stated, "This gap is so big, I could fit a tooth in it." My Dh promptly retrieved his bag of teeth and started placing them on the table in front of ds, saying, "Here's one for you...try it." Of course, ds12 was thoroughly grossed out and then had fits of laughter as dh kept bringing out different sizes of teeth.

I keep all my kid's baby teeth, but now that you mention it, I don't know why :confused3

When I was 18, my mom gave me a jar with all my baby teeth. I said "GROSS!" and threw them out! I still feel bad she kept them all those years for nothing.

My dad has the first tooth I lost, but not the others.

I saw (somewhere, can't remember) a shadow box with engraved labels for "lock of hair" "first baby tooth" etc.

Now, for the kicker- when my nephew's umbilical cord fell off, my SIL kept that in a little zip lock baggie. Last time I saw it, it was so shriveled and dried, it looked like a little mummy! Don't know if she still has it (nephew is 13 now) but I will ask for sure.

OK, Lulu, that is the GROSSEST thing I have heard in a LONG time!

My dog eats the kids' teeth. Shhh....it's a secret. They usually put the teeth on their nightstands and little do they know the toothfairy that takes their teeth is a big Newf. I go and deliver their little gifts, but the Newf-fairy has already disposed of their teeth. :dog: (Yum)

My younger daughter saw her do it one time and wouldn't tell a soul. She didn't want anyone to be disappointed with Tatum our Newfie. :flower: It's a doggy thing. :dog2:

My mom saved all of my baby teeth and still as them, I am now almost 28. I plan on keeping my childrens teeth also. I really think I am going to get those boxes as they are much more presentable way to store them. I must say that I too have both of my childrens umbilical cords. They are kept in a box of baby things, including the hospital hat, heart monitor and other things from the hospital. I think it is hard to get rid of because it was what helped my children grow inside of me...I know I am very sentimental or maybe just mental :confused3

I have two tiny, clear plastic boxes that I drew a tooth on with a paint pen and wrote my kids names. I collected their teeth in there. I don't really have a good answer as to why, except to say that I am sentimental and couldn't throw them away at the time.

I also have locks of hair from their first haircuts as toddlers. When they happen upon these things they say, "oh Mom!" in an exasperated voice, but secretly I think they are pleased to be thought of so highly as to have hair and teeth saved. (they are now 21 and 15)

I have always saved the teeth too. I gave my 22 y/o DD her box of teeth a couple months ago when I came across them in a drawer. She couldn't believe I had kept them all these years and was really happy. LOL! Anyway I keep all the kids teeth in their each little box until they get older. I thought everybody kept the teeth and by this thread it seems that it the norm.

I am a keeper of the teeth...

It started for me when I lost my first tooth...my dad was in the Air Force and stationed away from us when I lost the first one. I wanted my daddy to see my first lost tooth so badly that Mom wrote the tooth fairy a note asking her if we could keep it for my daddy to see when he got home and of course the tooth fairy obliged. I still have it in an old baggie in my jewelry box. Mom had shared this story with my son when his first tooth became "wiggly" and since his dad wasn't with him...child of divorced parents...he wanted to keep his first tooth to show his dad. So, I've kept every one since except for the one that was knocked out at school and he and his best friend (who knocked it out playing kickball) searched for the rest of recess to find it without any luck. He just wrote the tooth fairy a note and hoped she'd understand...she did.

My friend did this too, until one day her DD4 went upstairs and got into her memory trunk. She ate wedding mints from my friend's wedding that she had saved (yuck! 6 year old mints). Then she ate the "raisin" she found in a little baggy. Yep, you guessed it. The "raisin" was her little brother's umbilical cord, which my friend had saved. (Makes the mints not sound so bad.)

My poor friend still turns green when she thinks about it.

We've kept our DD's teeth for sentimental reasons I guess. But now, like the umbilical cord, doctors can use them to gather stem cells in the event that your child becomes ill. I'm glad I have that little insurance in my jewlery box and had I known about the cord I probably would have saved that too.
