Inspired by the wedding thread...how did you meet/get together with your SO?

My dh and I both volunteered with fire stations, but in different counties. In 1997 we participated in the annual firefighters Spark of Love toy drive. This particular year, dozens of fire truck and engines formed a caravan that went from city to city. I was riding in one engine, Chris was driving a truck and tiller. Long story short - the engine I was riding in broke down, so I had to hitch a ride on the truck Chris was driving. He didn't talk much, but he was pleasant to be with. When we got back home, I started getting out of the truck and Chris says "So, uh, are there any good places to eat around here?" I said of course, and then he asks if he could take me out to dinner sometime. I said yes, and the rest is history. A couple years later he tells me that he was so nervous that he couldn't remember my name until I wrote it down for him with my number. He was such a dork! The truck and tiller we met in was used in our wedding too - it was really sweet!

I met DH online too. On a dare from a friend, I answered a few ads on Love @ AOL (although I was adament that I would never date a loser who had to find a date on a computer). I actually met several guys but DH and I had talked and talked on line. He finally asked for my phone number and I said no! I wasn't giving out my number to a stranger. I took his number and called him...we talked for hours on end. After a few days of this he asked me out. The moment I met him in person, I knew he was the one. We even had the same last name. :goodvibes Within 3 months we were living together (much to the dismay of both sets of parents) and a year later we were engaged. Our 5th wedding anniversary is in January. And I've never been happier or more in love.

I met my dh in a dance club here on LI. I had a longtime boyfriend at the time and wasn't looking for a boyfriend. But, my now DH came up to me with the LAMEST line, something about me not dancing, and I guess I fell for it, because a couple of days after meeting my now DH, I broke up with my then boyfriend (of 6 years!!!) and 9 months later we were engaged.

He sold a house to my co-worker and her then-husband, and then she introduced me to him.

It was love at first sight for him  he says. I took a bit longer to be convinced, but I liked him at first sight!!!! ;)

We met in high school. I actually met DH because I was dating one of his friends at the time. I broke up with that guy and a few months later asked DH to the Sadie Hawkins dance. We've been together since.

....Please don't make me go first!!! :cheer2:

Come on.....some one??? Anyone???? :goodvibes

:goodvibes I was inspired by that thread too and started one about first dates. But... yours got more responses. I know, no body likes me. :guilty: It's okay.
So.... I'll post here too! :sunny:

My DH met in 8th grade at the age of 13. We were friends and then started dating 3 years later at age 16 and our first date was at the Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles where he held my hand for the first time. :lovestruc We have been married for 12 years and look forward to 50 more! :cloud9:

Blind date NYE 92....We were set up with my good friend's boyfriend's best friend. This NYE is 13 years together. :flower:

Add me to those that met my DH at a fraternity/sorority function - years ago. I was at a function at DH's fraternity (I was dating one of his "brothers" at the time). Anyway, it was one of those electric ice tea functions, and my date had to go to tend bar for a while. ;) Meanwhile, I was propping myself against the edge of the fireplace, managing my :drinking1 waiting for my date to get off bar duty. Suddenly, this cute guy appears and pulls me away from the fireplace telling me "You are swaying so much, I am afraid you are going to fall into that fire."....

Well, that wasn't the end of it (unbeknownst to me). This guy then went to my date and told him, "Mind if I dance with your date?" My date's response, "Go ahead. Take her (i.e off my hands)." :rotfl: :rotfl:
But that didn't seal it. My new date had no long term interest in me at that point (as he tells it) :earseek: It wasn't until a conversation later that evening when I told him about my DM almost falling in the Grand Canal of Venice that he decided I was worldly enough to pursue :confused3

And the rest shall they say, is history...  :wave2:

My DH was the factuality adviser (needed for funding no grades or anything) for the sailing club at my college. He had graduated about 3 years before and had been a member of the club while a student. When he graduated the president at the time asked him to be the adviser to keep the club running. When I joined we spoke a little but it wasn’t until I became Commodore of the club that we started to spend more time together and things just went from there. After we started to date he did quit the position and move to another job that way we didn’t have to deal with conflict with the club. We have been together for 8 years in April and married for 2.
