Do you use the number pad or the numbers on the keyboard?

Since I learned so long ago to type, and number pads on keyboards were non-existent, I tend to use the numbers on they keyboard, especially when I'm typing letters and numbers together. If I'm typing strickly numbers, I now use the numberpad.

Mostly keyboard. I do 95% of my typing for personal and business on laptops. If I am using my desktop computer and inputting lots of numerical data, I will use the numberpad.

number pad usually...I am usually typing in the dark since my daughter is sleeping in here so I find the number pad easier to use when typing numbers.

Keyboard, but I don't have a choice since I don't have a number pad on my laptop.

I've been typing for about 22 years now and I feel SO guilty that I STILL have trouble with the numbers!!! I usually have to stop and look for the numbers I need above the keys. It's shameful. I rarely use the keypad unless I am doing actual calculations. I forget it's over there!!

Numberpad - that's part of the reason I'm not fond of laptops. Also learned how to mouse with the left hand so the right would be available faster for the numberpad. Can you tell I'm an accountant?

I use the keys at the top, I guess because I learned to type on a regular typewriter. I am a trainer for my company and often sit at a student's computer to show them something. Almost all of them use the keypad because I will accidentally use the keypad for the up & down arrows and they have it on "numlock".

I have become quite proficient at "ten-key by touch" since I do numbers all day at work. Sometimes, if what I'm typing is alpha-numeric (like the VIN of a vehicle) I might occasionally use the top numbers, but not usually.

I have a laptop so I have to use the numbers on the keyboard. However, when I was working on my thesis and entering numeric data I was really close to buying a number pad to attach to my laptop! When I took keyboarding they taught us how to use the number pad, although I'm not as good at it.

Number pad. I am too impatient to use the keyboard.

i use the number pad much faster for me but, i did take accounting classes so i am sure that is why.

I usually use the number pad. I also learned to type before the number pads.

I took typing in high school in 1962, probably before most of you were born! It was one of the first IBM electric typerwriters with a ball instead of keys! I never did learn to type numbers - I always have to look! And I still use the numbers above the letters on the keyboard.

number pad on a desktop the other way on a laptop. I love the number pad.

I use the number keypad when Im typing numbers. I learned to use the keypad about 10 years ago when I first got my job at the trauma center. I had to imput tons of medical record numbers and accounts so I needed to learn the keypad real well and fast. I use it often still and can do so without looking.

I do the same thing! Comes from my years working in the auto repair & banking industries. Where I am now, I use Excel a LOT. So, I tend to use the numberpad. When I am using the numberpad only, I type a LOT faster than my 80wpm using the qwerty keyboard! :teeth:
