Inspired by the ring thread..... your engagment ring..

mine is a .5 carat heart shaped. DH wanted the heart and had a hard time finding one. Jewelers told him that was for sweethearts only. He said "who do you think I am marrying, a stranger?" The bottom point of the heart would not sit well with a plain band for the wedding ring, which is what I wanted, so I could wear it solo. WE ended up with a slim band made to fit the bottom of a marquis cut. then the two rings slid back and forth all the time and was wearing out, so I ended up having them "welded" together into on ring at the back. So now I can really never wear just the wedding ring. But after wearing the set for almost 20 years, it's no problem!!

Mine is a 1/3 carat princess cut solitaire set in 14K gold, wedding band is 14K gold with a beading on both edges and 5 diamonds (not sure of weight). DH tells me he wants to get a bigger diamond for our 5th anniversary (2005), but I couldn't imagine having anything bigger. I have tiny fingers, plus the original is too special. Now, if he wants to get me a diamond solitaire necklace, that's another story....

Like Debbie's, mine became "sewer glitter" years ago. I was reaching into the washing machine to remove the load to go into the dryer & caught the setting/stone in one of those pesky little holes & it broke right off! Tore the whole machine apart & never did find it. It was a 1/5 carat pear shape in 14 k yellow gold. I kept the wedding set, though, & this past fall I got the diamond from my mom's wedding set & had a new head/setting built on my original wedding set. It is a round solitare slightly larger than 1/3 carat. I absolutely love how it looks in my ring!!! It is even more special because my dad died almost 31 years ago when I was only 10, & my mom is in a nursing home in the end stages of Alzheimer's and this way I always have a part of both them and DH with me at all times.

Mine is also a 1/4 carat solitare in a simple gold band --the band is higher on the left side of the diamond and goes down on the right side. I had my wedding ring (no stones) made to match--same thin width. DH was only 18 when he got it for me so it has great sentimental value. I also have a 1 carat total weight anniversary ring I got for 10 years, but it doesn't fit right now (I must have hit something, the back side of that ring and my mother's ring got somewhat flattened) --and the wedding rings don't come off--I'm hoping that in 10 more pounds or so I can get them off to get them inspected and cleaned.

I love my engagement ring. I did help my then-fiance to pick it out.

It's 14kt. yellow gold. 1 carat round diamond with 4 very small diamonds on each side of it, set into narrow channels.

My wedding band matches it. It has 10 small round diamonds set into a 14kt. yellow gold narrow channel.

happy lifetime together!

Boy, I guess I had different standards. I am amazed at the size of most of your rings.

My engagement ring is 1/4 carat white diamond set in a 14 k gold band that's kind of "s" shaped. The wedding band snaps into the "s" shape of the engagement ring and has six really little diamond ships set into a channel. The total ring set is 1/3 carat. I wear my wedding ring all the time except when I had sparring night in tae kwon do, so I wanted something that I was comfortable washing dishes, etc. with.

I don't think you have different standards, just different tastes. I personally never liked the big diamonds. I thought they were tacky and gaudy. I picked out a .50 diamond and like it just fine. We had a wedding ring and engagement designed just the way I wanted it. It may not be as big as some but it is nearly flawless and cost a pretty penny. More so then the 1 and 2 carat diamonds I was looking at. That being said there are people that don't think a thing of blowing $20,000 or more on a wedding. I think that is a total waste of money, especially when you see the bride and groom begging for cash as wedding gifts! But there are people that love big weddings and all that goes with it. Nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with wanting a big diamond. I did end up getting a beautful anniversary ring with a lot of big diamonds inlaid around the band. It isn't something I would have given a second look at but when it went on my finger I totally changed my mind. Big, tacky, gaudy? Maybe to some, but I love it all the same!:D

I love big gaudy cocktail rings with a large stone surrounded by diamonds. I have 2 of them :) They're great because I have large hands and long fingers.

Unfortunatley, we were really poor when DH and I got engaged. In fact, I didn't get an engagement ring until a month after we eloped (7mos before we had a church wedding).
My ring is very small - a half carat round diamond raised with 2 quarter carats on the side set in yellow gold.
DH said I can upgrade in 3 1/2 years for our 10th anniversary :)

What you have got to understand is that I have big hands. A smaller ring would look so funny on my big tater pickers...

Anyway, I love my ring immensely. I get compliments on it every day, and I've never seen anyone with one exactly like it!
It is a 1.0 carat center stone with alternating channel set baguettes and double stacked princess cut stones, the actual engagement ring is a 1.75 tcw, and the band is 1.0 tcw set in platinum.

The pic below is the one we took to the jeweler to have mine made with. The only difference is that mine is a bit more substantial, because my bands are thicker. In that pic, the band has alternating baguettes with one princess cut stone, and in my band, two princess cut stones are stacked horizontally with a longer baguette beside them.
