I just don't get the whole designer bag thing. If a purse is more that $25, then I don't need it! I think the designer bags are cute, but I could never pay a bunch for a purse!

I was thinking the same thing when I read the other post. I LOVE the Dooney handbag line, but I could never pay that much. I know me. If I were at the register I would feel so guilty paying nearly $300 for a HANDBAG. Give me a knock off and I will be happy.

I called DH on the truck and jokingly told him what I wanted for X-Mas and he said "Go ask your mom because I am not dropping $300 on a purse...Sorry!" Oh well...a girl can dream!

Most I've paid so far for one bag was just shy of $280 (Coach)

I doubt I'd spend more then $300 on a bag.

::yes:: This is how I feel. I am too hard on my purses to spend much on them. Even if I had the money to spend several hundred on a purse, which I don't, I doubt I would. It's just not important to me. :confused3

I'm with you. I'm pretty much a cheapskate when it comes to accessories. I have one purse--it's a big, black, leather backpack type thing. It was on sale at Target for $30 and it holds a lot of junk which is exactly what I look for in a purse. :rotfl:

Coach girl here... of course as my tag implies, I never pay full price (outlet or Marshalls/TJ Maxx) but the most I've paid.. probably $250

I am definitely willing to buy a bag as much as $300 and if I could afford it I would buy a pink Marc Jacobs ($900).

The bag I wore today is a Black Kate Spade Messenger and I have had it for about 4 years now. It still looks great, not a single thread is coming undone, lining is still in perfect shape, only the bottom is a little worn as I have dragged this bag around everywhere, filled it up for WDW and Disneyland, and toted books around for class. I will never need another purse in this style ever again unless I decide I need a new color.

I have heard my co-worker complain about ripped linings, broken straps, holes wearing in the bottom on several different purses this year. I bet she and I eventually spend the same amount on bags per year, just in a different way.

I also look at it as I carry a bag everyday, it should be of good quality, just like the rest of what I am wearing.

$75 is about all I'll pay. I can get a nice Fossil or LL Bean purse/bag for that price. Now if someone wants to give me a $300 purse as I gift, I won't turn it down. ;)

I might pay $40 if I really liked the bag, which would mean it was a cool little backpack with lots of nicely organized pockets and stuff. My current one cost about $25 at Eddie Bauer. And black. It must be black so that it doesn't clash with anything. I don't like to change purses to have to match my clothes.

There's no way I'd carry a purse that screams "She paid a bundle for me!". It's fine if that is your thing, but I'd actually be embarrassed. I don't like flashy bags, and I don't get into status symbols. A local radio station gave away designer purses for weeks recently. Maybe they still are. I'd rather NOT win that contest, thank you. I'm sure they'd love it when I won and yelled "Yay! Woo hoo! I wonder how fast can I put this thing up on e-bay :scratchin."

I never thought I'd pay more than $50 for a purse, but I *love* my Vera Bradley. Granted, it was only something like $60, so not much above my $50 range, and even that was iffy on the price. But it's held up better than any cloth purse I've ever had, and I still absolutely love it a year later.

But $300? No thanks.

I'd pay at most $30 - but others are allowed to spend as much as they want on one for me!!! ;) (I'm a Brighton girl!)

I will pay up to $300 for a purse, but for that price I have to really fall in love with it. I'm pretty much a Coach girl, and most of mine cost in the $120-$200 range. If I had the money to spend on bags, I'd have no problem buying Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci etc bags, but I just can't afford to do that.

I am very picky about purses. I can ever find out that has everything I want in it and also be under $100. My purses all cost between $125-200. I onlyh get 2-3 new purses a year though. I always get a new one every spring and fall and usually a really cute one for summer. I know that is peanuts compared to some of these ladies on this board though! LOL!

My purses all cost between $125-200 yet they do not scream that I paid a bundle for them. They are neither flashy or trashy and certainly aren't considered a status symbol. They are all understated and most are leather. They are a necessity to me. I do think it's funny that anytime someone disagrees with other folks spending they liken it to a status symbol. To me, a status symbol is having your own private jet and pilot at your beckon call. It cetainly isn't a $150 purse! ROFL!

I didn't mean to put anyone on the defensive. I didn't say I disagreed with anyone's spending. I think I said something like "If it's your thing, that's fine."

I know there are nice looking expensive purses. I didn't say there weren't. I also did not say expensive purses look "trashy". Perhaps I was unclear in that I was simply talking about the stereotypical expensive purses. I've seen the road-side vendors selling their copycat merchandise, which often claims to be the real thing. And many times that merchandise consists of what? Knock-off purses. If something is worth copying so closely that you can barely tell a real one from a fake one, then it is most definitely a status symbol. But not all expensive purses are.

Another Coach girl checking in!!!! I never pay full price for them. I buy at the Coach outlets, and even then, only when they have a sale. The most expensive one that I have bought was $180, but I had a $150 gift card that my employer had given me for my birthday.

I figure, they will last me indefinately(at least many, many years ;) ), and this will make up for the fact that all the other department store handbags last me a year(if I am that lucky), before the liner starts tearing or the outside threads start breaking. This happens to almost all of my non-Coach handbags.

Plus, I just love  Coach's styles of handbags!!!!

The most expensive purse I have cost $350. I wouldn't spend any more that that. Most of my purses are in the $150-175 range.

Well, the most I've spent was $80. I've been given some as gifts that were more pricey. I've drooled over some that were even more pricey.

And currently, there's this peach of a Dooney bag that I'm dying for (and I don't even usually like Dooney bags)...$300...Santa baby, if you're listening... :teeth:
