Inspired by the prom thread, did you enjoy high school?

For me, both high school and college were just means to an end. I enjoyed them while I was there (or as much as one could) but I was REALLY glad when they were over.

I didn't hate high school, but I guess it was more of a means to an end than anything else. I didn't even care about high school graduation (although I went, of course). I had good grades and graduated with honors.

Most of my friends and boyfriends were already out of school. I always tended to be pretty mature for my age and didn't care much for all of the "drama" of high school. While I'm glad others had a great time, it just wasn't my thing.

I mainly looked forward to college which I really enjoyed (and looked forward to that graduation).

I hated high school. I had a long-term boyfriend, a super-close best friend, and tons of other friends, but I was still miserable.

I hated getting up early. I hated the fact that there was never any point to going to school; we didn't do any work or have any assignments, so why waste my time? I could have been doing much better things. The whole place was a circus and there was no control; kids did whatever they pleased. It was just mass chaos. I was so glad to graduate!

Absolutely despised high school. I did well, honor roll and such, but most of the kids were cliquey and nasty. I did meet my best friend so that was a positive, but the only one!

I loved high school! I hated elementary school and junior high, but high school was a lot of fun!

I just kind of rolled with it. I didn't hate it (although I'm sure I said I did back then) and I sure didn't love it either.

I was into the partying and all that crazy stuff, yet I maintained very good grades. My biggest complaint (and it still is) was getting up so early. I had to be at the bus stop at 7:00. That is VERY early when you live in Buffalo in the winter. It felt like going to school in the middle of the night.

Eh, it was OK I guess. The classes were fine and I had some good friends. It was certainly better than work!

I didn't really participate in much - I was in a small pre-professional ballet company and spent 35-40 hours a week in class/rehearsal. Then just before my senior year we moved to a very small town-virtually no ballet but a great community theatre and I made some great school friends and participated in UIL , Choir, theatre etc. and I had a blast! I really think the whole reason my Mom and Dad insisted on the move was to get me to open up to other possibilities- it worked. To this day the little town we moved to when I was 17 is home to me, not Houston, which is where I grew up.

The early bus times my freshman and sophomore years would be my one complaint that I forgot to add to my earlier post. Freshman year the bus was scheduled to come at 6:10 (yes in the morning), and would come somwhere between 6:06 and 6:40 every day. It's unbelievably dark and cold when it's winter, snowing, and that early, on a backcountry road. Sophomore year, the bus came at a more decent hour...6:30  . But by then my dad was driving me to school once or twice a week for various activities, so that was a help. I'd leave my house at ten of 7 and be at school half an hour before the bus. Junior year I drove until I totaled my car; then dad drove me everyday until I got a replacement car. Senior year I drove all year without any incidents

I was surprised to see so many people that either hated high school, or dropped out for various reasons.

I must be the odd one, but I loved every minute of high school. I have lots of great memories, and I am still friends with a couple people from high school even after 27 years.

So, did YOU enjoy high school?

I had a blast in high school. I met my best friend (still best friends) and we had so much fun we had during HS. :) I was involved in lots of activities, was a good student, never got in trouble so HS was a great experience for me.

I went to boarding school (lived overseas, no english school in our little colony), so I loved it. No mom and dad! It was a strict school, but we found ways around the rules. I really enjoyed hanging out with friends and just doing school stuff. I was a cheerleader, in student council, yearbook, etc....but it was a very small school and it wasn't too hard to participate in everything. I only had 25 in my graduating class.

I'm still friends with nearly everyone and love getting together with them. It was really a different environment than high school here.

Hated HS came from a small catholic elementary school where I was constantly the butte of every joke. By the time I went to HS I couldn't and didn't trust anyone so spent most of my time in the library. I have no friends at all from that time and doubt any one would remember me.

I HATED every single second of high school. I literally counted the seconds until I graduated.

It wasn't that I was not a good student, because I was pretty darn smart. I just hated the clicks (sp?). I was one of those kids who never really fit into an specific group. I had cheerleader friends, nerd friends, and friends that were in the band. Yet, I never felt part of any of those worlds. I even dated one of the football players for my junior and senior year...but always opted out of going to those dopey jock parties and such.

I have to say that I DID have a great time at the prom, but that's really my only great memory of high school.

This was me too word for word! I actually had one best friend turn on me because I would not go to those stupid parties. Can't say it was a big loss ;)

Hated high school, loved college. I still have nightmares in which I somehow find myself back in high school and I'm desperately trying to find a way to get out of going all over again!

Middle school was so indescribably horrible that I really feared the worst out of high school. I was pleasantly surprised to find the most of the people in high school had better things to worry about than making each other miserable, and that there were varied, interesting classes, great faculty, and lots of opportunity.

There were still ups and downs, but on the whole I really enjoyed high school and was very impressed with the quality of the school. And yes, I went to both of my proms. :teeth:

College wasn't that great. It was a small, private liberal arts college where dumb rich kids got dumped by their parents. There were a few of us scholarship refugees (brought in solely to keep the school's SAT/ACT averages in an acceptable range) who were cool, but the student body on the whole was composed of drunk, xenophobic, dim snobs. The faculty was truly outstanding, but I couldn't wait to get out! Even with a 4 year scholarship I pushed to get out 2 semesters early.

I enjoyed high school. I went to an excellent but large suburban public school. I wasn't one of the "in" crowd, but had my own circle of friends. I liked the academics, and there were a variety of activities available. I think being a teenager is hard no matter where you go to school.

And heh, I met my dh of 25 years in junior year homeroom, so I guess it's no wonder I have fond memories of school!

Only reason I went to high school is that it was the best place to score drugs! I hated school and starting as a freshman I took a full load of classes-no lunch no study hall-in order to have enough credits to graduate a year early! I honestly can't recall a lot of it-its all sort of a fuzzy haze!

I did NOT enjoy high school. I went about it the wrong way, I think. I was always so wrapped up in the drama of who liked whom and so on that I didn't pay much attention to academics. I suck at math, I didn't try in History, I loved Literature but couldn't be bothered to do the homework. I did have a few very good friends but I don't keep in touch with any of them now. My college GPA was 4.0 so I am not an unintelligent girl, I just got distracted by all the extraneous crap in high school.

I didn't get invited to our 10 year reunion, which I found interesting because I wouldn't have been THAT hard to find. I saw 3 or 4 classmates at a wedding that same year, and the majority of us weren't contacted. Seems silly to have a reunion if you aren't going to LOOK for the graduates.

The people I went to high school with aren't people I was interested in then, and most likely aren't people I would be interested in now. Nobody is famous or wildly successful. I hope the people I liked are happy. I don't care if the people I didn't like are happy or not. No need to revisit any of it now. :confused3

I loved, loved, loved high school! Attended the top Catholic High School in the state. I was the top student in my class every year. The teachers loved me. I had a boyfriend the entire time (well, several but not too many at the same time ;) ), lived and died by Friday night football games and weekend Basketball games. Joined lots of clubs and things. Always busy. Just got into the whole thing! Was NOT in the super rich popular club, but loved my friends and had a blast!!! Never got a demerit, but boy, I sure should have!! High School was fabulous!! All of my school experiences were great, all the way thru grad school. Maybe this is why I'm the most enthusiastic teacher at my school!

I hated high school. Incredibly boring classes (except English--I've always loved to read), and very clique-ish students. As others have mentioned, I had all kinds of friends--I was in a music/drama class and hung out with the drama types, plus I dated a couple of jocks, plus I hung out with other Honors English students, plus I had some good friends I used to skip school with and go to the beach, a distant mall, or whatever. But I was very shy and never felt I really "fit in" with any group.

I absolutely LOVED college. It was so wonderful to be able to choose my classes, and meet other people who were genuinely interested in learning. I went to a huge state school so there really weren't noticable cliques. I loved being on my own, away from my chaotic family, and able to finally take charge of my life!
