Is there anything that you order away from your home "region" that people just look at you like you are nuts??

I remember being about 15 and ordering a Horseshoe at a Steak N Shake in St Louis and they looked at me as if I had just grown a second head... that is when I realized we, in Springfield, are the only ones who eat these...

Boudin. Some people just don't "get it."

Now maybe I should suggest that you tell everyone what it is, too... because I am going to be awful curious with all these new things...:p

Horseshoe
Toast with ham/hamburger (any meat or egg you want) covered with fries topped with a tangy cheese sauce

Very good!!!

yuuummm that sounds good.

"Cajun Pork Boudin: Fresh USDA pork meat mixed with "The Cajun Three" (onions, celery and bell peppers), seasoned and cooked tender. We seperate the cooked meat from the broth. The cooked pork is course ground and mixed with the cooked rice and broth, making sure the mixture is perfect every time (not to dry nor mushy). It is then stuffed in a sausage casing, and vacuum packed ready for you to heat and serve. Most Cajuns eat boudin for breakfast, dinner, or supper."

Vickylan,
you are right. No one from here has ever heard of Taylor ham/ pork roll!
One of my clients is from NJ also. Since he is from NNJ, he always asks me to bring him Taylor ham. When he goes up, I always ask for pork roll! LOL (SNJ)

Actually, I always want some Tastykakes to go with that!

As for the others on this thread. I have never even heard of them!!:o :p

I never go anywhere :( though I am told I would have trouble finding good grits in other areas.

Heck, at resteraunts you can have a hard time finding good ones here!

I can't think of any slang terms for food though.

I got a pork roll from FEDEX once. Still not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.

I love Boudin!! Could eat it everyday...

Lets see I have heard that chilli and slaw on hamburgers is a Southern thing but really good!

Grits of course and Fried Green Tomatoes or maybe Fried Yellow Sqash.

All Cajun food is wonderful though especially stuffed chickens or hens with dirty rice.

The crazy people around here eat scrapple, but I'm not one of them. It's basically all of the parts of the pig that no one wants to eat, ground up and mixed with cornmeal and then formed into a loaf shape. You slice it and fry it until golden and crunchy on the outside.

A “Garbage Plate!” There’s one particular restaurant that has it on the menu, but other local restaurants have their own versions. It’s a platter that usually consists of a burger or hot dog (but could be Italian sausage, steak, or some other meat), French fries or home fries, macaroni salad or baked beans.

The other thing is a haddock fish fry.

picadillo, maduros, and congri Add some yuca fries and you have a great meal

Bettys Battered Fries...

These were named after my MIL, after she accidently dropped some fries into the chicken breading where she works. She went ahead and deep fried them. Excellent!

I've never seen battered fries anywhere else.

Now these are on the menu, and they sell tons of them.......:D
