I have fine hair and I find that ALL the shampoos are so full of additives that my hair is clean 24 hours only.

Is there a good shampoo that is gentle and won't cause build up?

I'm sorry, I don't think I'm understanding. What do you mean only 24 hours? How long do you expect a shampoo to work? It gets your hair clean and then you and what you do determine how dirty it gets?

But I use Suave Daily Clarifying. It's cheap, does a good job and does not weigh my hair down.

I hate washing my hair daily. Before they had all the waxes etc in shampoos I could have clean hair for 2-3 days. ....

I use Mane and Tame (sold at wal-greens or in wal-mart in the pet section) That is what my dr's reccomended for me when my hair fell out. Seems to make it a bit thicker too!

I really like the Samy shampoo from Target. I also have fine/thin hair. It does not weigh it down at all. I also use a clarifier once a week and I get mine from Fantastic Sam's. I have to wash my hair every day otherwise it gets really yucky looking.

My favorite is Finesse, my 2nd is Salon Selectives and my third is good old Suave. I have fine hair also and find that these 3 do the best job.
