Inspired by PD's How Many DVD Poll - How do you store your DVDs?

Thanks Mike!

I did download it and enter a couple of movies. I was impressed at how easy it is - just enter the UPC and bam, there is all the info.

I guess since it's a free program, I can't complain. Might try out that other one that Charade talked about and see if it's worth buying into.

You're welcome. :)

It's also very easy to add titles via the list, which is great if you don't want to handle each title to get the UPC and you remember the titles you have. The only drawback is some titles have more than one entry, but most only have one.

The other cool feature is you can share your collection online. Here is a link to mine. Looks like I went up to 1591 after this last trip to Best Buy.

The program I use does the same thing. You can get a bar code scanner from them (or anyone for that matter) and scan them right in. If you don't use a scanner you enter the name of the movie and it'll search 1 or several websites and collect the info from there.

It's not free but it's not all that expensive either.

We bought this:

and immediately filled it up with over 400 DVDs. We should buy a second one, but since we are running out of wall space, it would need to go against the wall of our 2nd floor landing (first thing you would see when you get to the top of the stairs) and it's not THAT attractive that I want to look at it everytime I come up the stairs or walk from the living room to the kitchen. :sunny:

I have these bookshelves from Ikea. We added another shelf, and that allows each unit to hold 148 DVDs. Need another one, we're overflowing the two we have, lol.

We tried the demo version of the program you linked to also, Charade. Also very cool. One thing we liked about the DVDProfiler one was the cross reference feature for actors, etc. We are constantly trying to figure out where we have seen someone before on a movie or tvshow on DVD and this is easier than going to IMDB. Does the pay version of Collectorz allow you to do that?

Wow, Mike! Awesome collection! I was going through it thinking "we have a lot of the same movies" but heck, when you have practically 1600 DVDs like you do, the odds are in that favor.

We are in the process of entering our collection but that should be a little closer to 400 DVDs. We need to catch up ;)

Oh, and Charade? I noticed that the collectorz.com has a comic book version. Do you know if that works the same as the movie - where you enter the comic books in by UPC number? That is definitely something I need.

I use IMDB quite often. It's a great site for movie buffs. I don't think there's any difference between the trial version and the paid version. You can search the Movie Collector database for any keyword but it will only give you results from your database.

Don't know. I don't collect comics ever since my Mom threw them OUT! You'll have to try it. I think the programs are basically the same just customized for each type of item you want to catalog.

When we had our family room remodeled a few years ago, I knew that I wanted drawers, drawers, and more drawers. :teeth:

I purchased an entertainment center with two flanking units. Then I was able to purchase a bureau in matching wood (beech) The drawers were perfect for storing small toys when DS was small, and I 've been gradually filling them with DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, and cassette tapes. I've been replacing the VHS & cassette s with DVDs and Cds. Each drawer holds 50 DVDs/CDs, and I have 9 of them. The entertainment center also has VHS drawers, and the side shelves have drawers.

Then I have shelves behind the couch with storage baskets. As DS outgrows his toys, they will also be filled with DVDs. etc.
