...and thus didn't *have* to work, what would you do?

Me?

Right now, probably stay home and cross stitch. Cross stitch, design cross stitch. Design layouts for cross stitch patterns. Ideally I'd find someone I could trust who would publish my patterns *for* me and take care of all the shipping and contacting distributors and shops and stuff.

Also throw in a few weeks out of the year for vacations, of course. ;)

Remember, a million is about $30-$50K, annual INCOME, conservatively invested, don't think of it as a million $, if you are living on it.

Party pooper.;)

I would pay off my bills, expand my house or buy a new one, and go to school full-time. DH would probably use some of it to invest in a prototype of some of his invention ideas.

Is this a million before or after taxes? I would invest most of it, minus a little for a nice vacation.

Fix the current house and pay it off, then rent it out. Buy better cars. Go on a LOOOONG vacation to all the ThemeParks in the US and Europe and maybe a few others. Build a custom house in the country, with LOTS of land, raise pugs and horses, and of course go to WDW whenever I could.

Assuming that's after taxes, it's still not enough to quit my job and live on, so here goes:

$200,000 to my parents to buy a nice house in a better neighborhood
$50,000 for a pool and home improvements for us
$10,000 vacation in London over Thanksgiving
$10,000 terrific trip to WDW
$10,000 vacation in Italy
$360,000 in the three kids 529 plans to fund a great liberal arts college education for each
$100,000 to the church and/or a charity
The balance ($260,000) invested for retirement.

This is definitely the nicest thread I've ever inspired. ;)

I would still work, but maybe cut back to part time so I could dedicate more of my time to trying to help my favorite band get a record deal. Then when they hit it big I would have more money to see more shows. :teeth:

Money would go into building my new home and into savings too.

I would be a "lady who lunches" and then shops all afternoon.

Hey, wait. I do that already...

Well, I would lunch a little longer and shop a LOT longer!

Like Dan Murphy said, a million bucks ain't a lot if one is thinking about retiring. I'd need more like $20MM to live comfortably on the investment income and not work.

If I had a million bucks? s;Upgrade the house and pay it off. Buy a Cobalt 343. Put the rest away for the kids college. Go back to work on Monday.

Nobody said anything about my husband retiring.. just me! He'd still go off every morning and leave me to a life of leisure!princess:

Call me, Shugardrawers, we'll go have mimosas on the lanai before our table is ready...after we're done shopping we'll have them send the bags home so we don't have to carry them and ruin our manicures!

OOOOH that sounds nice! Can we squeeze in a massage too? That way I can be sure and be home AFTER the maid leaves. I just can't stand to be around all that dust and mold.

I would expand my house, buy some cars (2), give some to charity and our parents and then...save the rest for retirement and college.

I might go back to school and get my masters...but that would be after I covered my retirement and my kids college.

OOOO...one last thing..I would have a maid come twice a week rather then once every other week!!!

Pay off the house, have a carport built,go to all the Disney parks around the world,go to Alaska and Hawaii,go on a Disney cruise and stay in the most expensive room, put some away for college for Jennifer, get a new car.

I'd still work, but I would go part time, DH could stop working 2 jobs.

A nice vacation would work wonders for me...Disney cruise!

It would be nice to fix up the house and not worry about going over budget...buy some new furniture..stuff like that.

I don't want much...just an easier life then what I have now.

:earseek: I would retire to WDW!!!!!!!!:earsgirl: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:  nana2tots
