Inspired by ME - Where Do You Buy Alcoholic Beverages in Your State?

I'm also in Pa, so "ditto" what Beth said.

When I went to Fl and saw the liquor in the supermarket, it looked strange to me! LOL

In NH you can buy beer and wine in grocery and convenience stores. More wine and hard liquor in state run liquor stores....some of which are located at the "Safety Rest Stops" on the major highways  (getting all the tourists to stop on their way in and out of state to stock up...prices lower than in surrounding states).
I grew up in Massachusetts when all alcohol was sold at "the packie" (package store) which were not open on Sundays.....so if you forgot to go to the packie on Saturday you had to go to a bar to drown your sorrows watching the Pats on Sunday...or have someone drive to NH........;)

I'm from South Eastern Massachusetts where you get your booze from a liquor store, also known as a "packy" and you can't get any on Sundays, unless it's during the Christmas season, and that's only a fairly recent development.

I know in Northern MA there are packy's open on Sundays if they are w/in x amt of miles of the NH border. We don't have the same deal if you are X amt of miles from the CT or RI border, and you can get booze on Sundays in RI - also from a packy.

You can buy beer at the grocery store/convience stores, but only 3.2% alcohol. Hard liquor must be bought at the local liquor store that closes at 8pm Monday thru Saturday, closed on Sundays. The grocery store/convience stores can not sell alcohol on Sundays either.

New Jersey: No beer/wine/spirits whatsoever at supermarkets or at any 7-11s, gas stations, etc. No state-run stores. You just go to the privately run liquor store nearest to you (probably 2 or 3 n each town).

snoopy -- white oak is in pg county, right? i know you definately can't buy any alcohol in the groceries in MoCo. we have some very odd liquor laws in this county. that's in part why restaurants in MoCo have such BAD wine selections.

looks like we have seperate liquor laws from the state of maryland...

Probably the most egregious government encroachment on America's drinking habits is the controlled state. In 18 states, plus Montgomery County, Md., sales of wine and spirits are controlled by a state-run monopoly. The largest of these states is Pennsylvania. Over the years Pennsylvania governors have sworn to rid the state of this uncompetitive relic. None have been able to overcome the unions of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's employees.

and, i agree with you about the liquor stores in dc. some of them are AMAZING. :)

Ditto to helenabear's comments -- in Ohio, expect on Sunday mornings, you can get most alcohol pretty much anywhere. Hard liquor only at the state stores.

Coming from PA originally, I was another one who walked in to pay for gas one day and was amazed to see 12-packs of beer sitting there! :teeth: Now, PA seems odd to me. :p
