I have always considered myself a proud American. I love my country and all it stands for. Obviously, this country is not perfect and I will never understand or agree with a lot of what goes on here, but no one will ever convince me that there is any better place to live. I'm proud and consider myself very lucky to be a citizen of a country that people are literally dying to come to. It IS our duty (and right) to complain about and criticize what we feel is wrong. But all in all, it's a pretty darn nice place to live, period.
Since I will probably never be in a position to physically protect my country, I'm always trying to think of new ways to "do my part". I always buy American-made cars (it's not easy, many American car companies manufacture in other countries), I always look for the Made in USA label (again, not easy), I give to local police and fire depts., etc. It's not much, and frankly, my little purchases probably don't even matter in the big scheme of huge international conglomerates, but it's what I do. I always remember my grandparents quoting the line, "The job you save may be your own".
Any other suggestions? How do you "do your part"? By the way, huge thanks and appreciation to those who are REALLY protecting us - we appreciate you more than you know!
