Inspired by December99: Have you ever bought a Chia anything?

OK, so as I pass by the Chia Pets, Chia Heads and Chia Herb Gardens in K-Mart, I wonder to myself, does anyone buy these things? And I tell myself, "Self, of course someone buys them, or they would go out of business." So fess up people, who is buying these things????

I have to confess....dd really wants a Chia Tweety....I just can't break down to buy her one!!!!!

december99 yes they really do grow, but it's kind of weird.

You have to soak the pot in water for 24 hours (and the seeds too I think, it's been so long I'm not sure). This makes the seeds kind of slimy, so you can spread them on the pot. You have to make sure they stay wet - there is a hole in the top of the pot and it must be filled - usually several times a day.

Soon, the little bugger starts sprouting. Kind of weird actually.

The chia head was scary - kind of looked like my ex.

DS bought me one of these for Christmas when he was a preschooler. He is now 14 and I still haven't let him live it down.... I killed it, not intentionally.

And about 5-6 years ago my DH bought me The Clapper - which I somehow managed to "misplace".

DD (now 17) bought me a BIG troll doll for my birthday when she was 7.

Sigh..... family - gotta love them........ (right? )

I had a chia turtle when I was in junior high.

DH and I bought a chia scooby-doo for our 6 year old nephew from our dogs.

I have never bought one, but knowing that I have a Tweety collection a friend recently bought me the Tweety Chia Pet. My 8 year old DD and I just recently "planted" it for the 2nd time. Yes, it works and my DD adores it. And, I must say it's awful hard to be in a bad mood when you come home from work and see Tweety with a plant afro in your kitchen window. But, where is Goofy Chia and Mickey Chia???

I had a chia pet when I was younger. Don't remember it too well, I don't think it survived very long.

NO, I've never bought any of them BUT, last year before Mom's brain surgery, she joked about needing just the seeds to grow some hair while hers grew back in!

Years ago when DD Meggan (autochick) was little, she wanted a Chia Pet for Christmas. So we bought her one. It did grow for a little while.

A few years back I bought a Chia pet AND a Chia head for my son for Christmas. He got a real kick out of them. But after the first growth, they sat in the closet until I put them in the yard sale box. I guess the thrill is gone.
