Someone mentioned the doggie mess that gets left under all that snow in the winter. I can so relate!

I've spent the last 4 days trying to get up all of it as the snow melts in my backyard. It's landmine city and it's GROSS.

Just wondering how many of you do manage to pick up your doggie's "presents" despite the snow? It's not possible here, as it just sinks in and disappears until spring. Another good reason to move to Florida.;)

I am right there with you! Man, having two doesn't double it, the gross factor goes up exponentially! I scoop the poop as long as I can but once the snow comes, it is too difficult. I was hoping to get out today since it has warmed up and dried out some but wouldn't you know, it is raining. The next time it is dry enough, I will spend ages raking and shoveling...yuck! We are having our backyard sodded this spring and I hope it will help with the mud and make scooping a bit easier.

I hate having to do this but it's almost impossible while the snow is still on the ground.

Our snow never lasts long enough to have to clean it while there's still snow out. In fact, I don't think our dog usually makes much doggy doo when it's snowy out. He just holds it until it melts.

I really hate doing this in the snow. What makes it worse is that we rent a town house and the snowplow basically blocked our dogs access to the yard. They've been going in the snowbank infront of our house. I've tried to clean it up, but you never realize how much you actually miss until the snow all melts! It's a mess!!!

This is going to sound gross, but I found a method that I think works better the shovels or scoopers. I have to large dogs and it takes a long time to pick up after them, especially in the spring. I buy boxes of disposable surgical gloves. I just grab my bag and start picking it up and tossing it. It goes much faster. You can get hold of it better (even when its wet and really gross). It is a little hard on my back and legs, but I figure it is good exercise.

I do the same Ferlapeg! We are gross together:earseek: !
Make sure your doggies watch out for the red ants in Fl., my mom's poochie had one run in w/them...but learned to aty away after that!

Leave it and blame it on the snowman. hee hee :teeth:

My DH just expressed his disgust about the yard today  He will NOT pick up after our dog - my dog - my job  I haven't picked up since December, but I have a big yard. She mostly goes in the same spot, but it will take me a few hours a day for a couple of days to clean it up.

I could never use gloves....has to be a shovel, or I'll hurl...really...

I think that was me talking bout dog doo, it seems to be my obsession! I try to clean up once per week, but it got frozen solid to the ground. I may have to try the glove method, will truly gross out my kids. I just shovel, doo and snow and all in a bag, then I leave it outside behind a tree until I can stick it in the garbage. Once I made the mistake of putting the plastic bag in the garage, the snow and everything melted, omigosh -- pee yeew, it smelled so bad I almost passed out when I opened the garage door. I ended up sweeping it out and dumping carpet cleaner all over it. It worked great, took the smell away, dried up and I swept it out again.

Mrs.v your two labbies are gorgeous.

This is a funny thread! There is actually a company in our area that you can hire to clean up your yard after your animals. Their motto is "They poop em, We scoop em!" Can you imagine doing this for a living? Not me!

So glad I'm not the only one with this monumental task! I use a variation of the surgical glove method. I use sandwich bags. The cheap ones. I just pick it up and throw it in a plastic bag. Clump by clump. It's gross, but it does prevent smushage. In other words, the poop gets picked up in entirety and none smushes into the grass. When you have a big dog, you get big poops, and less smushage is preferable. I'm clumsy with a shovel anyway. I never get it all up the right way.

And not to get even more disgusting, but is anyone else faced with "poop soup"? It's what happens when the snow melts and then it rains on top of the poop. You get these lovely brown puddles in the grass. Ewwwww.... I can't wait for summer when I can get out daily and keep things clean.

when jasmine dropped I shoveled it into the little bags from the grocery store......easy to do when they are frozen too.......and if snow gets into them......so what......it goes to the local land fill.......alot easier to do winter pick up then it is in the other seasons here

My backyard is a mine field! The ground is all muddy and mucky and the dog poop is all squishy! I use a scooper and throw it into our woods right next to the yard. Maybe that is why the trees grow so well!

and steal the tomatoes off the plants in the summer and then

edited cause it was gross
