I was going to post about this anyway, but wasn't sure if it had any relevence. After reading Becka's post about the scale, I decided that there may be others who need to hear this.
It's not your friend. It's not your enemy.
IT'S A SCALE!
It is a hunk of man made (focus on the word MAN, and sorry in advance to John, Dan and any others who may innocently carry around that strangely mutated chromosome) equipment designed to tell you something about yourself that should be between you and your Doctor. Yet, somehow, we all develope some strange emotional attachment to it. It is nothing more than a tool. Don't rely on the wrong tool for the job! You don't flip pancakes with a wisk, you don't prune roses with a butter knife, you don't hammer nails with a screwdriver. Don't use the scale to give you a mental boost.
We have all been there. Step on the scale, show a loss, and we float on air for the rest of the day.
We feel so good about ourselves. There seems to be a disproportionate reaction, however, when the scale shows no loss, or Heaven forbid, a gain.
There are so many reasons for gaining, despite everything we try to do to get rid of it.
The point is to continue to nourish yourself with foods that are not nutritionally deficient, and (this is usually the case with foods in this category) stay away fom salt. Continue to work activity into your daily life. If you want to feel good about yourself, be good to yourself. If you want a boost, get outside and smell the flowers. Feed the Birds. Do something nice for someone you love, or better yet, for someone who has no one to love. Tap into who you are, and DON'T let the scale tell you that. It is not going to tell you what a kind, generous, loving, compassionate, beautiful, selfless, etc., etc., etc., person you are. It is the wrong tool for the job.
About those clippies. I'm not giving mine back! You'll have to pry it from my wretched, rigid fingers! I did lose that weight, and though I gained some back, (I know I've been doing the same thing except I have been eating some salty foods and TOM is just around the corner, so it follows that I would be up.) I won't give up my clippie for that. However, I won't ask for another, until I re-lose, plus lose another 5. (not lose the same 5 over and over, though, even that could be a victory, in the sense I'm not really gaining anything either.
)
Clippies, and the great people on this board are great tools and motivators! Clippies show you what you can do and, indeed, have done. People give you the help you need to stay on track and accomplish your task. Remember, next time you feel the need to weigh, ask yourself if you are prepared to do battle with this machine, and do you really want to use a butter knife to prune your roses?
Keep the Faith!
