Me and Scott are looking to go away somewhere for New Year's Eve but have no idea where to go or what to do. We went to DLP last year and although we’d love to go again, there’s no way we could afford to. We don’t want to spend over £100 each if possible but we could probably stretch to around £150 if it was a good place. So where could we go for a few days for that price? There are no kiddies to consider it’d just be the two of us. We don’t want to go clubbing on NYE as it’s not really us, the most we’d want to do is a relatively lively pub. Our ideal NYE is a friend’s house party but as far as we know, no one’s throwing one.

Anyone got any suggestions?

We tried that two years ago. We asked all our friends and about 20 of them replied saying that they'd love to come and asking what they should wear/bring. Between waking up on 30th Dec and mid afternoon on NYE, all but 1 of them cancelled because they couldn't be bothered, suddenly remembered they had work that night or something similar. This exact same thing also happened on last year's Halloween party and an end of college party I tried to throw in July.

We've since figured out that we have the most unreliable friends in the universe.

Apart from Edinburgh being the obvious answer Looe in cornwall has a reputation as being an excellent place to spend new years, you could catch a train to liskeard then connect, pick up a cheap b&B and party on the beach all night, (B&Bs will get booked up soon as its got such a good name for a party - havn't been myself 'cos I'm always working)
